I finished my radiotherapy and chemo for the same type of cancer 1 month ago.  For the first 2 weeks  after fnishing my treatment I felt dreadful I had the same issue with mucus and vomiting, also was very fatigued and depressed.  My advice is to just try and stay positive and know that you will start to feel  better. I am very pleased to say that the issue I was having with all the mucus has now almost gone away, I no longer am vomiting without warning and my energy levels appear to have improved. Stay strong..... it will pass.  Best wishes to you

I'm just about to start that treatment. I have been warned its pants and it takes a few weeks to feel better. Hope you feel better soon

Get the hospital to give you something for the nausea, Im surprised they have not done so already. Its something to do with your gag reflex being triggered by the irritatation or swelling caused by the radiotherapy, and perhaps the chemo it will subside after a week or so.

Make sure to drink plenty, and take water to bed at night to sip and wash down the mucus, you can add a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda to a pint of water this helps with mucus, also tea is good. Try to sleep propped up with pillows rather than flat, if you can.

Make sure you continue with swallowing excersises the speech therapist has shown you even if you find it difficult.

The good news is you WILL improve rapidly about 2 to 4 weeks from now. Your taste will start to return you wont feel so lousy and down and the fatigue will begin to lift. Im 10 months down the line and although I'm still tired and still have problems with mucus and other things I lead a fairly normal life the "new normal" that is. Kim

Hi I know exactly how you feel, I had the thick mucus during the radiotherapy so had to time it so I didn't choke when the mask was clamped down. I had a feeding tube with the fortisip 5 bottles a day just to keep some weight on. It's really tough but you will get there and things will start to improve about 1 month after the treatment stops. Keep doing your mouth exersices and swallow small sips of water when you can. It's been a year since treatment for me know and I'm back to work part time. My taste is crap but you learn to eat differently and in smaller mouthfuls 

Keep positive you will feel poorly but just do everything they ask and your get through it. The 7 weeks I had went quite quickly looking back. I had larazppam for my treatment which helped cope with it enormously. I wish you all the best. 

The best anti sickness drug I found was odanzitrone. The oncologist will give it to you in the treatment clinic appointment. All the best Carol
