Thyroid cancer (follicular)

Recently been diagnosed with having follicular thyroid cancer after having half my thyroid removed, had the rest of it removed two days ago and am now awaiting the results of second part of my thyroid. It has been a massive shock and am now waiting to find out when I will start radioactive iodine to see if it has spread anywhere else. Can't believe I'm 21 with a newborn baby and now cancer, I feel low and I keep getting told it's the best cancer to have, like I'm supposed to be grateful, I am sorry for people going through worse but this has been so upsetting. I'm not sure how to switch of from it, to just ignore it until results, I'm so scared that it might have spread :(

  • Hi

I have also recently been diagnosed with the same cancer as you and feel very low and just not myself.  I am older than you and have two teenagers so I can only imagine how hard it must be for you with a newborn.  Everybody keeps saying to me that it is the best cancer to have but it does not make you feel any better.

hope you are ok and start your treatment soon.

  • Hi I'm sorry I haven't been here for a long time, I've had lots to do as you can imagine. My treatment went well, the radiation showed that it had spread to more of my neck than we had though but no where else which is good news. In regards to treatment, take it one day at a time. In regards to the emotional strain, I've still yet to figure out a way of coping with it. It's not that I'm constantly sad or anything, I'm just not the same person I used to be. But it will come in time I'm sure xx

Good luck with all your treatments
