Thyroid cancer (follicular)

Recently been diagnosed with having follicular thyroid cancer after having half my thyroid removed, had the rest of it removed two days ago and am now awaiting the results of second part of my thyroid. It has been a massive shock and am now waiting to find out when I will start radioactive iodine to see if it has spread anywhere else. Can't believe I'm 21 with a newborn baby and now cancer, I feel low and I keep getting told it's the best cancer to have, like I'm supposed to be grateful, I am sorry for people going through worse but this has been so upsetting. I'm not sure how to switch of from it, to just ignore it until results, I'm so scared that it might have spread :(

  • Hello KatyAnn0006,

Welcome to our Cancer Chat forum. It is normal to feel upset after receiving the news that you have thyroid cancer and I hope you will meet others here who have had to deal with a similar diagnosis, or have already had treatment.

I will let them come and say hello and share their experience with you as I am sure it will help you to talk to someone else who has had a similar diagnosis.

Fingers crossed all goes well with the radioactive iodine - let us know what the results are. We are keeping everything crossed for you!

    Best wishes,
