Just wanted to say... know how you feel. My husband has cancer and we've had well meaning friends message us to tell us about miracle cures they've read about in this publication or that..

Since husbands diagnosis cancer seems to be everywhere. Every program on TV seems to have a reference (or worse still a reference to somebody who didn't beat it and has passed away)  so we feel can't even get an escape from our new reality by emerging ourselves in the goggle box! 

In the case of the Daily Mail..  I guess a miracle cure can sell papers. Cancer is so scary that even people who haven't got it are keen to know it might be irradicated before they have to face it themselves. 

Hope it made you feel a little better venting your angst.

While our press team do their best to get our side of the story published too, it’s not always easy. We do send out statements to the papers when we see stories which are potentially harmful or inaccurate and we do a lot of work on Social Media and on our Blog to get the message out.

I found that science blog by chance yesterday & will recommend it.  I was looking for informationn about foodstuffs & diet & found the items on 'super foods' & sugar very interesting. There was some good news reported this week, on early testing by GPs, where they will consider the symptoms first then match them to particular cancers. That must be an improvement. The disspiriting news is of potential cures that won't be available for years, if ever, & the newspapers & broadcasters ought to be more responsible about reports on cancers.

I kinda hate the Daily Fail! 

Recently found this article when researching melanoma after having a melanoma removed.

It's so wrong, I'm convinced my melanoma was caused by excessive sun exposure and my GP and dermatologist don't disagree with me either and I've only burnt badly (blistering and peeling) once my entire life, when I was 21 and living in South Aftica...I'm 35 now.

I too have extensive sun damage to my skin caused by years of surfing in Western Australia, and a lifetime of working outdoors in the tropics. Squamous cell skin cancer is a very real cancer, not some trivial problem. If it becomes metastatic it will likely kill you. I now have a 3 inch hole on my forehead, a radical neck dissection to remove salivary glands and neck lymph nodes and now a tumour in my lung. The dermatology clinics are full of people like me who didnt know any better 40-50 years ago, but we know now! the evidence about UV light exposure is indisputable. I suggest in protest you stop buying the Daily Mail permanently.

Sadly I can't boycott the Daily Mail over this, I stopped reading that paper as soon as I was mature enough to think for myself.

They are even worse than the Sun - same rubbish but wrapped in a sneering, snobbish, self-congratulatory veneer.
