bowel cancer

Hi my name is Helen..I was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2013.....I had my 6monthly scan on Monday does anyone else get scanaxiety?

  • Hi Helen, welcome to the forum, but sorry for the reason you find yourself here. I was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2010 and had a colon re-section. I received chemo for about 5 months after but I was so sick from it that they had to discontinue the treatments. I do continue with scans now, even though it is 5 years since my initial diagnosis. The cancer has not returned in my colon, but I now have colorectal lung cancer, which is an offshoot of the colon cancer. I also have bladder cancer, (not related) so I'm not sure if I would be still having the abdominal scans if I didn't have these other two cancers. In any case, to answer your question, I can relate to your anxiety when waiting for scan results. Sometimes the wait is worse than hearing the results. Let us know how your scan results turn out. I hope you don't have to wait to long for them.

    Take care.

  • Hi and welcome,

I had Bowel cancer nearly five years ago,but since then I have had liver cancer, both operations went well.I.like you used to have a scan every six months, but now it has moved to my lymph nodes in my groin.consequently I have a scan every three months.it has become a way of life and accept it,I.am always positive and determined to beat this.

So to answer your question,no I.Don't get anxious, just try to keep positive that is half the battle.

Please stay loose,as they say,and Positive.

    Hope all goes well.

    Alan

  • Hi Helen I was diagnosed in 2013 as well with a perforated bowel cancer.  Emergency op etc etc.  I have yearly scans which so far are clear.  I try to accept the scans as something that is helping me to stay on top of beating the beast and if something should show up, heaven forbid, then we can deal with it, mind you I would be very angry initially.  Try to see yr scans as something that is helping you to stay healthy and how lucky we are to be here to be having them!  I was told on my 2 year check up that 4 out of 5 people with the problem I had wouldn't be here now so I feel I have been handed my life back hopefully for some years!
