Diagnosed now

I have been fully diagnosed and have my staging now For bowel cancer I'm a T4 N2 M0. I've been told I should be visiting the oncologist within 2 weeks. It was a shock that the tumour was at the highest number. But I'm grateful my son told me I had to get to the hospital when he did otherwise it would have been a different story now. I'm not as scared now because the bogeyman that has inhabited my brain has disappeared because I know the diagnoses.

  • Hello Dolly1,

I just noticed you hadn't received a reply which is very unusual in our forum, but there have been so many new posts recently that as a result your post got a bit hidden. But the fact that I am responding will bump your thread back up to the top. You could also perhaps edit your title to 'Diagnosed now with bowel cancer' so that others with a bowel cancer diagnosis will be able to spot your message straight away.

I thought I would also point you in the direction of this recent thread and Meerkat@65 would be a great person for you to connect with.

There are many on the forum with a bowel cancer diagnosis that is similar to yours and I hope that coming here will make you feel less alone. It seems you feel a bit better now that you know exactly what you are dealing with. The wait for results must have been agonizing and I am glad that bogeyman that was inhabiting your brain went away. This forum is here for you anytime you want to talk, whether you want to talk to other people with bowel cancer, or have a question for our lovely nurses (they're only a free phone call away on 0808 800 4040).

Best of luck with your appointment with the oncologist. Let us know what they say!

  • Hi Dolly,

I am pleased the lovely Lucie has replied to you.

Like Lucie, I am pleased you are feeling a little better now; it's the not knowing thats so hard. You will probably feel even better once you have a treatment plan in place and the treatments start. We always feel bad waiting for tests and the results for it's only natural our brains imagine the worst scenario.

I wish you well and please let us know how you get on, Brian.

  • Hi Dolly,

So glad Lucie and Brian have replied to your post and bumped it back up the forum.

I can certainly relate to your comment about the 'bogeyman inhabiting your brain!' And as Brian says, we often feel better once we've got a treatment plan in place.

I've just responded on another thread to another new member with a bowel cancer diagnosis and I'd like to say the same to you as I have to him; if I can offer any support or help answer any questions you may have, please ask.

I've certainly felt very supported by the forum - I've offloaded many times to my virtual buddies! :)

    Take care, Jo xx

  • Hi Dolly1,

I was also diagnosed T4 N2 M0 in October 2014. The M0 was the most important factor to me as it meant it hadn't spread to any other organs.

I had an op in November and am currently on my 5th course of Chemo out of 8, not always easy and they've had to readjust my treatment but I have managed to carry on working.

    Good luck
