Pain to arm and chest 18 months after lumpectomy

I had a lumpectomy for primary breast cancer in March 2013 followed by chemo, rads and Herceptin. I am now taking Anastrazole. For the last couple of weeks I have had pain to my shoulder and chest to the side I had the cancer. It feels muscular and is worse when I take a deep breath. I have no lumps or bumps that I can feel. Can anyone advise or has anyone else experienced this? Many thanks
  • Hi Lindylou,

I cant offer any advice except to advise you to contact your doctor as soon as possible. Hopefully it may turn out to be nothing to worry about but best to get it checked out rapidly. I am telling you this when I put off going to the doctor for between 9 months to a year and only went when my wife insisted in a very determined manner.

Please let us know how thing turn out when you have time, Brian

  • Hi Lindylou,

I agree with Woodworm...get to your G.P. in the morning ..........o if you have the number for a Macmillan Nurse get in contact with them also!!!

Don't wait please do something a.s.a.p.

Hugs, from me & think of me on Monday Afternoon when I go to see the Surgeon tyo find out what he intends to do about my Cancer.

If you are religious, I will pray for you & you Pray for me!!!

  • Hello Woodworm or is it Brian?

    How are you?

I am new to the forum but feel WE MUST STICK TOGETHER!!!!

  • Hi Loftyloo,

I couldnt agree more. Cancer unites us, where ever we may live or whatever we do.

Best wishes to you for Monday and I hope it's good news.

You are so right about sticking together, Brian

  • Lindylou ....

I agree that you should see your consultant about the new symptoms in your operation site - but at the same time, please do not panic because 8yrs on now and again, I still get twinges and aches around my chest and shoulder where I had a lumpectomy and radiotherapy. I put it down to intermittent mild lymphodeama as no reason has ever been found for it. I had a liver resection in June 2013 and sometimes feel tremendous pain in that area too - so I do think that these things cause internal damage which causes problems from time-to-time.

I hope you dont mind me saying - but something I would need to ask my consultant if I were you - is why did you only receive Herceptin for a year?  If your tumour was Herceptin positive, I was under the impression that Herceptin infusions were ongoing.  My secondary BC is Herceptin positive and I have now been on it for nearly 3yrs. Anastrozole is used to treat post-menopausal hormone receptive BC. Like me, you may be one of a small percentage of ladies with hormone and herceptin positive cancer - but if that is the case, Herceptin in normally ongoing I thought - but I could be wrong.  It would be worth checking this out.

Good luck with it all - I hope your fears are unfounded. Please let us know x

  • Thank you Brian,

    Lots of love & support!!!!!
