An anxious wait . . . is now back on again

Hi everyone,

Just a quick update, straight from the horses mouth, so to speak!

The specialist liver nurse has just rung to say that my latest MRI scan results have shown no new tumours!!!

Still the original three little blighters!

One of three has remained the same size, but the other two have slightly increased in size.

Next step is to have a PET scan (will need to look this up on here!) thought the nurse did explain it was like a CT scan only with glucose - I'm guessing to highlight markers elsewhere in the body?

If this scan is ok, liver resection and stoma reversal is next on the cards!

No timescales yet, but I'm wearing a smile as big as the sun today!

Thank you everyone for all your supportive messages during my 'anxious wait'

Love to you all, Jo xx

    Great news Jo!

You truly deserved some good news after what must have been such a stressful and difficult time waiting for news.

Please excuse my lack of understanding but if the go ahead is given for liver resection and stoma reversal does that mean a treatment that will hopefully rid you of the three blighters?

    Garf. xx

  • Hi Garf,

Thank you for your kind message and smiley icon!

In answer to your question, yes, the liver resection op would rid me of the 3 pesky blighters and in theory, leave me cancer free!

The stoma reversal is just a procedure to re-plumb my pipe work!

I'm meeting the colorectal surgeon in a few weeks to discuss the pros and cons of the op.

Physically, I've coped well with my stoma, but I've suffered some mental issues since having it done - I keep telling myself it's my little life-saving friend, but I still struggle with certain aspects of it! Hopefully, the Bot Doc can sort me out!

I've a PET-CT scan on Tuesday (potential to glow like the ReadyBrek kid!) and once the results from that are in, I should get a date through for my tandem surgery! BOGOF type offer! Always keen to get value for money, me!

Take care, thinking of you, Jo xx

  • Wow, Jo! I didn't realise the op would remove all three! How fantastic! I'm sure you can't wait to get it done now.

  • Glow like a Ready Brek kid --- now I feel old!

I will be in France on Tuesday but I will raise my morning coffee to you before your appointment and then raise a proper glass to you in the evening.  Massive respect to you for managing to keep your sense of humour through this rubbish that cancer has given you.  Of course I don't actually know you are talking about "Bot Docs" and internal goings on because I still keep my eyes shut when I read about them.

Take good care Jo and I will look forward to hearing how you got on when I get back.

  • Hi Jo

Wishing you all the very best for Tuesday and onwards of course.  Am sure you will be able to sort out the Bot Docs with such a wonderful sense of humour.  Oh and thinking of the I'm back thread I am definitely in the over 21 (again) club.  Have just finished spending 4hrs relaxation reading in the garden - cannot believe it was warm enough after all!! (or maybe it was the mowing and tidying up that heated me up first) . Enjoy the weekend.  Jules x

  • Hello everyone

Just hijacking your thread to say hi. Jules glad you had some garden time. Same here, altho have been serenaded all day by baby starlings who are fledging by the day and eating us out of house and mealworms. No sign of the house martins yet but I live in hope. Lawn is full of hedgehog poo. I do realise that in a normal world this wouldnt be great, but in my little world its yippee they are doing good!

Jo, just read thro some of this and thanks for what you said about me. Got to spread the smile where you can I reckon. To return the compliment,  I think you are a bloody marvel!! It was lovely meeting up with Gill, she is as warm and kind as you would expect.

Gill, guess what I went to aqua fit today at bannatynes! Really enjoyed it too. Time to get me fit I think.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend

    Lots of love

    Lisa xX

  • Hi Gill, Debbie, Garf, Jules and Lisa!

A lengthy joint reply, if that's ok?

Gill, hope your last chemo went well on Tuesday and that you're managing to enjoy the weekend without any side effects.

Debbie it sounds a bit odd to say, but yes, I can't wait to get the op over and done with! I just hope I'm able to 'bounce back' as quickly as I seemed to after my rectal surgery! Fingers crossed, with the timing of this surgery I'll have the summer months to help perk me up too!

Garf, Bon Voyage! Enjoy the delights of France - delicious coffee and croissants would be my downfall! Oh yes, I must say thanks for being the perfect gentleman and not looking!

Jules, thank you for your continuing messages of support. Glad you managed a few hours of relaxation in the sun (after your labours!) We took Paddy to the park where he met other dogs, attracted a lot of welcome attention from everyone who saw him (I'm biased, but he is a cutie!) but slightly let himself down by 'watering' a lady's legs! I hope you manage  more of the same R and R tomorrow - not sure of forecast though!

Lisa, lovely to see your post here and thank you for kind compliment! Your garden sounds like a wildlife sanctuary! I love hearing the birds! One of life's 'free' little joys that so many miss out on because they're too busy to stop and listen! And Hedgehog poo on the lawn sounds more appealing than puppy poo!

Great that you met up with Gill! I once said to another forum friend, Max, that it would be lovely to all meet up and put faces to 'user names!'

I'm sure it would be a pretty emotional gathering! And maybe it would be tricky to find a central location as geographically, we all seem to be all over the place! Maybe something to aim for in the future!

I'll keep up with you on the Branchial and Tongue thread, but pop on here anytime! As you said, joy and smiles are there to be spread!

Well, take care lovely people, it's coffee and cake time here! Saturday evening treat, though it doesn't happen every Saturday I hasten to add!

Love and hugs to all, Jo xx

  • Hi Lisa

I am glad you enjoyed the aqua fit.  A bit too much for me at present but something I might think about in the future.

Also glad to hear about the hedgehog poo.  Being a new development we don't have any just a few birds (and a lot of cats).

Will catch up with you soon.

    Gill

  • Hi Jo,

I will be thinking of you on Tuesday when you have your PET scan. I'm not sure what one of these involves but I do remember the Ready Brek advert with the glowing kid and I'm 33. Now I've admitted remembering the advert I feel old!

I completely understand you having some difficulties accepting the stoma. I had some difficulties accepting my peg. I still have the damn thing, looks like I've been forgotten with my referral to have it removed! I've come to realise that it was the foreign objects in my body that were not welcomed even though I knew they were helping (peg, PICC line, chemo) the radiotherapy was ok as I couldn't "see" it! A stoma must be a huge change to your body and lifestyle habits so I can only imagine the psychological impact that could have, but it certainly paints a good picture of your personal characteristics. You have had to accept it and live with it even though you did not feel comfortable with it and that's not to be thought of lightly.

Sounds as if you have a big operation ahead of you but at least you will be free of the three "blighters"!! I'm sure that your positivity and sense of humour will assist your recovery as it did last time and I'm sure Paddy will be a good distraction for you as my little girl was for me.

    Speak soon,

    Nicola xx

  • Morning Jo

Bless Paddy - so much fun and laughter being gained by his antics I am sure - just loving the excited 'watering' of passing lady - he's only a baby and was obviously very excited!  A lovely diversion for you when you have lots coming up.  My son's Westie (when a puppy last year) was a great one at 'nervous tiddles' when she met new people!!  She is currently 'on holiday' with her first time being boarded (son and partner on holiday for a week's diving in Spain) so will be interesting to find out on their return how that went (being looked after by the people who normally give her 'cut and blow dry' who she really gets on with so not anticipating problems).

Another nice day outside but think I will be spending most of the time keeping daughter and grandchildren company today so not so much reading.  Meeting them for a walk round the Farmers'Market and then probably the park/swings/lunch and am off into the garden now to set up the Swingball for later!!  Have a good one. Take care.Jules x

  • Hi Jo,

The intrepid explorer returned from his travels to a very soggy Southampton but the short holiday was great including the emotional letter delivery.  I drank my morning coffe with you in mind on Tuesday so I hope the appointment ended with some kind of plan to rid you of the three blighters.

    Take good care Jo.

    Garf. xx
