Ovarian Cancer

Hi,

I was diagnosed with Cancer in March and although we knew it was Cancer its still a shock to be told it. I have had 2  chemo cycles now and have my 3rd at the end of the month. I would love to chat about the chemo side affects to anyone..

  • Hi Redlizzie

I to have ovarian cancer diagnosed in Jan 2009. I had 3 lots of chemo, operation, and another 3 lots of chemo.

The main problems I had with the chemo were gross taste in mouth and nothing tasted like it should, neuropathy of fingers and feet, these got worse with each chemo, but taste improved after about 6 weeks, fingers and feet improved but I still have neuropathy in my left foot (and right but only when I walk!). Hair loss - very slow to grow back and now have corkscrew curls! Tiredness but only realised how bad once I returned to work!

Most of the complications I had with chemo have been rare ones but then I only got diagnosed with ovarian cancer due to a rare autoimmune disease! I developed arterial bloods clots (aortic settling in left Femeral artery) just before my 4th dose, had daily blood thining injections but still developed another clot 5 days after the 6th dose! The onchologist/haematologist aren't sure if its cancer or chemo related and they don't seem to have personally come across it before so please don't worry about it!

I would be interested in hearing about plans for followup when you get that far.

    Best of luck

    Jackie

  • Jackie,

I am worried about you as I have not heard anything from you and the other Ladies..xxxx

  • Hi Jackie,

Sorry you have a cold, they are so draining .Have you retired yet?Lots of time to go for walks in the summer.

Eileen, how are you? Hope you have managed to avoid infections so far this year.

Blue eyedgal, any news yet or is your appt.later on?

Sharon, hope you are getting on Ok and getting around now the snow has gone, very pretty but nice now it has gone.

And Dot,hw are you?Still made up after your news.Which chemo were you on?

I am picking up slowly.Actually drove to the dentist myself yesterday, only a mile but it is surprising how you loose your confidence so quickly.Still trying to put on the 1 1/2 stone that I lost 2 months ago but finding it really difficult.57 years of dieting and now Im trying to put weight on,Sods Law !! My clothes are all too big,I was walking up the stairs t my dentists and stood on the hem of my skirt and the skirt came down over my bum, started laughing which started me coughing so need to visit the sales before Im arrested for flashing !!New chemo seems Ok,scan end of month to see if it has worked but definitely getting a bit of energy back.f only I could breath I would be A 1 but after reading Dots story I am very hopeful.

    Hope i havent missed anyone.

    Take care girls

    Rose xxxx

  • Hi Jackie & Ladies,

Happy New Year to all of us ....Sorry to hear you have a cold I just hope none of us gets that flu that is circulating.

I should have had my  last chemo on Wed but didn't have it as I had earache  for 3 days and was lightheaded. Anyway I said I didn't want the last one and the Dr had said he wouldn't push me for it. So I am waiting for the appointment in clinic and I expect he will send me for a scan... Fingers crossed everything will be fine.

Hope everyone had a good Christmas especially you Dot...

It will be nice to have no more chemo and Hospital appointments..

Keep in touch  will chat soon now everything is back to normal xxxx Eileen.xx

  • Rose,

We must have been writing at the same time.

How are you doing ????? Well get down to the shops for lots of new clothes as you deserve plenty of treats this after what you have been through.

I know what you been about driving as I have not drove since Feb so I have def lost my confidence..

Hope you are in good health and you are obviously still laughing.

Has anyone had this flu jab ? And Jackie would you recomend it ????

Love to you Rose and your family... Thanks for the Christmas card ..

      Eileen xxxxxxxxxxxx

  • Hi Eileen,

thank you for your card also..I asked my oncologist about the flu jab and he gave a resounding NO.but he did say that it was my decision because if I did actually catch flu I might have wished  I  had it but my system was fighting enough. One of those crystal balls would be good It is wierd how many healthy people are dying from it.

  • Hi Jackie and everyone else.

I hope you are recovering from your cold, I too have had a cold/flu, the whole family have had it and I have been no worse than anyone else, my husband had the injection but still got it, it has left us all with a nasty cough but other than that all is good.

Rose I am trying hard to lose weight, I actually put weight on.. and like you have always kept myself on a diet to avoid becoming a roly poly lol. Seems since my hysterectomy my other organs are fighting to fill the space and left me with a jelly tum lol. I still feel very positive and apart from my initial shock when I was first diagnosed, I have stayed very focused, I think having the support from you girls have kept me on track.

Eileen I hope everything goes well with you and you get good results, think positive chuckie egg!!

Great to see all your posts, you are always in my thoughts xxxxxxxxxx

  • Hi Rose,

Lovely to hear from you, I hope your next Hospital is better than the first one.

Everyone seems to be trying yo lose weight or put it on. I want another 1/2 stone on and get to 10 1/2 as I am 5ft 7 . I want it on my face but it never works like that. I also would like a face lift ha ha but hey ho we are who we are and as long as we are free from this illness we are lucky....

Keep us informed with your treatment and Happy New Year ..
