Hi, I would like to hear from anybody who had breast cancer last year, I finished all my treatment in November but still get a lot of pain in my breast, is there anybody with the same.
Hi Azalea
I had breast cancer last year - lumpectomy first then mastectomy in May - Chemo then Radiotherpy finishing just before Xmas. I think it probably depends on the Op. I had Lymph nodes removed and still get pain going from under my arm across the mastectomy scar (right side). I think what we must remember is quite a lot has happened to our bodies and it takes time to settle down. It really must depend on the type of treatment we have. I asked my GP how long it will take for me to be back to 'normal' and he said 6 months to 2 years. I know any ache or pain makes you think but I try to remember all the aches and pains I had before all this happened. Then I just took a couple of painkillers and forgot about it - now I stop and think - natural I think after what we have been through. Were you given the name of a 'breast nurse' whilst you were receiving treatment - some-one you could contact with any queries about your treatment? Mine was good and told me that even after all treatment was finished I could still call her if I was concerned about anything. I think most breast cancer clinics are the same so perhaps you could try them - just to put your mind at rest. Others on this site have had worse or better times of it but all without doubt will help you if they can. Please try not to worry - easier said than done - check it out if you can - don't think that you might be seeing medical staff unnecessarily - they all have much experience of this - you are not the first and won't be the last to contact them with worries - they were probably heartily fed up with me calling them all the time earlier this year but they never showed it.
All the best

Hi
I am after some advice and i throught that this would be the place to come.I had my masectomy the spring before last and then chemo and now i am on Tamoxifen and Zoledex injections. However the menapause does not seem to be showing up.I was worried about getting pregnant (althrogh my periods have stopped)and so the doctor did a blood test to see if i am still fertile and i amI am stage 4 althrogh it is in remission at the moment but if i am honest i know i will end up back on chemo again so if i want a histerectomy or just have the eggs taken out i should probably crack on but frankly if the menapause will come in a few months anyway i would rather avoid more operations.I was wondering how long it took for other people before the hot flushes kicked off.thank you for listening

Never EVER give up hope my dear. I came close to just saying "to hell with it all"more than once. Im glad I stayed strong ( with help from my kids bullying me to keep going lol lol )
Hi all,
Every day is a gift, we just didn't appreciate it before this dreadful disease hit us. But you hear so many times how something has changed somebody's life, and we can all relate to that having been on a difficult journey ourselves. The smallest things become beautiful, thank you becomes a bigger part of our vocabulary and friendships grow and blossom. Here especially, triumphs and tragedies are shared with real compassion, and after our tragedies, this good piece of news has made me (and others) smile. Much nicer when I have my wine later to raise the glass to good news, and I shall !!
is any one out there suffereing on tamoxifen with really bad fatigue? i was terrible, like a zombie and so now i take it at night twenty minutes or so before bed, read for half an hour in bed and zonko, not only out like a light, but since taking them at night (with the clondine for sweats) and I have not woken up with the sweats for three nights!

Hi ladies Tony
What great news! Really pleased for you spirits. I hope you start to feel better soon. As for the pain in your breast maki, it should get better with time although it can take months to feel more normal. I still have a lot of pain in my breast but I have lymphadema. I hope your app went ok today n I'm sure we will be able to help you through it.
I still feel quite strange n my energy levels keep nose diving! I did the race for life a week ago n I still cant move much. Haven't been out since n spend most of the day n night on the couch. I'm so tired n can't pick myself up. Starting to think something sinister is going on! Its over a year since I finished chemo n 6 months since I finished treatment altogether. Periods started again a few months ago to my dismay. I feel like poo! Felt better a few months ago than I do now. Any ideas why I feel so ill?
Hope this finds you all well n lots of love always.

Hi Ionie,
Sorry to hear that you are feeling nacked, please don't ignore anytning, we know our bodies the best and if you think something may be wrong ask to be looked at. I hope that today your energy levels are higher. Please let me know how are you. I just hope that maybe you did too much and it takes some time to recover.
I was with the onco yesterday and it seams to me this will last forewer I will have 6x3 weekly FEC-T, Hamptum ( i think thats the name) 3 weekly x 17 that means for a whole year, RT and tablets
I went shopping yesterday and on my way back just burst crying. I am traying so hard to bottle it and be strong and carry on as normal but its hard at the mo.
Have a lovely day and again I hope you are feeling better

Hi Maki
I went through exactly what you have got to go through last year, and I have 4 more herceptin treatments to go, my last one is in October. I have had the FEC-T and the rads and am now on the Femara tablets. The herceptin is not as tough as the chemo, it makes your muscles ache and you feel tired but nowhere near as bad as the chemo. I am not saying my body has returned to normal - it never will, but I am going to pilates, yoga and power walking now so things are much better. Yes you do feel knackered at times and a bit down in the dumps but I am having more good days than bad now.
I know it seems a long haul of treatment and I thought the same as you last year, but it has flown by and you will get through it just like I did and so many others do. One bit of advice ask for a PICC line - this is a line they put in your vein and it stays there whilst you are having your chemo, it will help your veins as the chemo can make them go tough and show up on your arm. The drugs are then administered through the PICC line. The herceptin is not so harsh on your veins and I now have that straight in the veins when I go. the oncologist said I shouyld feel better again once the herceptin has finished - cannot wait!
It is good to cry - it helps relive the pressure - so don't cram it up let it out.
Any other advice - just ask.
Lots of love Anne

Hi Ladies and Tony
I have just been catching up as I have not been feeling to clever lately, what with aches and pains, tierdness etc etc a bit like all of you so my oncologist has stopped my Tamoxifen for now and I had a bone scan yesterday. This was after having a Doppler scan blood tests and so on, I am so scared of the result but have an appointment with him on Friday, fingers crossed all will be okay. We think all the worry is over after all the treatment is over but it just doesn't seem to go away, I could cry and cry but I am determined that this is not going to beat me, I WILL NOT ALLOW IT TO. There I was looking forward to my reconstruction in January now that might all be put on hold.
Well sorry for that rant but I feel so fed up but I know I should be greatful for being here unlike some of our very good friends may they rest in peace.
Well what else has been happening with you all, I am hoping to book a holiday on Saturday for over Christmas if not to expensive otherwise it will be November and early December.
Tony where are you as I have not heard from you in a little while.
Lonie sorry to hear that you are having a difficult time at the moment as you are always so full of life on here

Hello Ladies and Tony
Well went back to the hospital for my results from Bone Scan on Friday and they were not there, not happy as you can imagine. My oncologist bless him was going mad and tried to get hold of them but unfortunatly the department was closed., I am now waiting for a phone call yes a phone call Monday morning from him. To play safe he has also booked me in for a full body CT Scan but am not allowed to go back onto my tablets yet, this worries me as my BC was hormone based.
I am so angry hence why it has taken till today to come back on here, how are you souppose to carry on, waiting for this phone call. The pains are just getting worse all the time, he is also checking my thyroid, he says it may be a process of alimination to find the problem. I have heard though that chemo can bring on arthuritus and ostioparois (sorry about the spelling), has anyone else heard this?
Well thats my moan of the day sorry about that
Lonie how are things with you, hope your feeling better
Tony I hope you are okay please get in touch
And all you other lovely people a big hug is sent to you all, please take care
Love to you all

Hi Linda
I went for my 1st dose of my 2nd cycle 2 wks ago (hope that makes sense) & I was telling the Dr I had been having a lot of pain in my R.arm, she informed me it could be osteo whatsit(sorry can`t spell it)brought on by chemo I was puzzled by this but as she didn`t elaborate on it I didn`t push for more info, but as the prob is still there I`ll be asking her next wk she also said it may be the cancer from my shoulder,I`ll keep posting to keep you updated can you please do the same.Love Kathryn
Hi Littlesis,
Sorry that I have been neglecting you all....I have been a bit of a hermit and although I have a few illness related problems I am pretty much in denial for the moment. What with the ulcer in my colon that needs surgery and a permanent stoma...I am waiting on the results of my last CT scan to see how the chemo is going..Last time it was a 20% reduction and I am so waiting for similar or better....I hate this cancer and will do my best to keep my chin up however as I am sure you know it can be pretty tough at times.
Much Love

Hi guys
Sis I hope you have had that phone call n had some good news. It's awful that you've had to wait but I'm hoping it will be fine n one less thing on your mind. I know you will let us know when you can. Thinking of you n wishing you the best.
Tony I hope the ulcer on your Tongue has gone or is going. Can't imagine how your other ulcer feels! You are always in my thoughts n I hope so much it's shrunk more. Keep up the fight big man.
I have oncology on Wednesday. I don't feel any better really. Energy is just non existant. Hope they can help me feel better. We'll see. Hope other ladies are feeling ok. Maki how are you?
Lots of love leonie xxxxxxxx
Another newbee here. I was diagnosed 2 weeks ago after finding a lump. I have a large lump maybe 4cm on left side and cancer cells in several lymph nodes. Scans show rest of me is clear it's early at stage 2. I'm starting chemo tomorrow and I suppose I'm just scared. I think I know what to expect but until it happens i still feel in the dark. I'm 36 my boys are age 5 and 2. My husband is finding it tough. We were living abroad we've come home because of this and right now we don't even have anywhere to live we're staying with family I don't feel in control which I hate!
I've been reading many posts very reassuring x
Hi Chancer
You will find lots of company on here. Hubby can join in too, as a partner of a BC lady I have been through the journey. PMs are ok too. Anything technical or medical the nurses are brilliant, you can even give them a call.
Stay in touch.
RD.

Well now for the news, I didn't get it until Wednesday after the CT Scan results came back, as you can imagine I was and have been in pieces but the good news
Is that it is not bone cancer that they are 100 percent on, after seeing another consultant yesterday he informs me it is osteo arthritus (sorry about spelling)
They say it is easily treatable which is great and as for my hand I can either have injections or a small operation which at the moment I can't even think about. With

Hi girls
So glad you posted been worried. Sorry it's arthritis but so glad it's not cancer! At least now you will get help to deal with it.
My app was a waste of time apart from them taking bloods. Don't know what they will test for though. It's probably side affects from meds though they don't know why I've started to feel worse. I'm not happy. I've been out 3 times in the last 3 weeks n spend most of the time laying down. What more can I do to rest n get some energy! I'm fed up being ill. I'll post later.
Will drink to you later. Xxxxx
Hi,
I hear you on the fatigue - my oncologist reckons part chemo, part drugs I am on so have told me to go back to my palliative care team as they will know of nerve treatments which don't make me so tired...I am on something called amitriptyline which knocks me for six.
I do hope they get the answers soon from the test...one thing that explained tiredness was when I had the results of my CT scan....whilst all remained stable with the cancer they noticed inflammation in one of my lungs so showed up a chest infection that I wasn't aware of. I was coughing a bit of rubbish up and like I said feeling the fatigue so now I know why.
Nice hot salt baths should help too!
Much Love
