skin cancer

I no skin cancer dosnt sound as bad as other cancers but belive me it is learnt that the hard way........... is their anyone out there that has had any experience with it? as i could really do with someone to talk to about it plz

  • Dear Ellie33, you musn`t panic but you shouldn`t keep this to yourself. It really might be nothing at all but it is always better to check it out. The earlier Melanoma is caught the better. I had one on my buttock which they took a biopsy of and then had to remove. They now give me check up`s every 6 months, which is very reassuring because I obviously worry about my moles more than I did before:shocked: . Believe me when I say that not knowing is a whole lot worse than actually dealing with the problem. Fingers crossed that it`s nothing at all but do let us know what you decide to do.

  • thank you.but i dont know if i can tell my mum as im not sure how shell take it as she has had skin cancer before and its possible it could come back.im worried about telling her,it may make it seem more real when i say it outloud.i cant tell my best friend either as she has recently had a mole removed and if i bring it up it might upset her.thank you,i know i need to tell, but i cant find the words.

  • Ellie, I understand how you're feeling because I've had a few moles that have been worrying. I have had melanoma and yet I've also had moles removed that both doctors and I were worried about and that turned out to be fine. It really is better to get them looked at as knowing what you're dealing with gives you choices. I can honestly say that the fear of the possibility that something might be cancer for me was worse than knowing. Fear usually comes from thinking you can't cope with the outcome, and from what might happen because of all the negative associations we have with the word cancer. But melanoma has brilliant cure rates, especially if caught early. Don't worry about other people's feelings with this, you need to do what's right for you. I'm sure your mum and your friend love you and would want to help. Go and see your doctor and ask to have them looked at. I'm very happy to chat to you if you want to, just let me know.

  • HELLO ANBODY

u want know everthing about cancer u visit this website riskcancer.co.cc u can see many pic and artikel.

  • Dear Ellie33, if you can`t tell your Mum, why don`t you go to a nice Doctor. If it`s nothing at all, you might not even have to tell anybody else. When I first suspected I might have mine, I didn`t tell my mum. My husband knew but I probably wouldn`t have told him if I had`nt been so scared that it was making me grumpy>:) ! . It is much better to know the truth than to spend the whole time worrying. I`m sure if you think hard, there must be somebody you tell, who could keep it a secret and maybe hold your hand when you go along to the doctor. Please keep in touch.

  • Ellie 33, you're so incredibly brave for coming on this forum and telling us your worries.

I'm so sad you don't feel you can tell your mum, but because you've already been so bave, I'm sure you can find the courage to make an appointment to see your doctor. They will be so pleased you did and will help you as much as they can.

When my mum was worried about her scar on her arm, she didn't want to tell me as she was afraid I would worry too much so I understand how you feel.

But at 14 this is far too much for you to have to cope with on your own.

Please keep posting and let us know what is happening.

    Best of luck, Mandy x

  • thank you.im not sure if i want to tell my mum just yet,but from what you say ,i think i should go to the doctor as soon as i can.do you know if i can go on my own ,or do i need a parent with me because im under 16?i dont really like the idea of going on my own, just incase the doctor says it looks bad and needs to be removed.what if it does have to be removed,i looked on nhs online and it says they use local aneastetic, and im afraid of needles, and i mean terrified ,i stop breathing and go numb all over. recently i had a tooth out and i insisted on having aneastetic via oxygen,so i was asleep when they put the local aneastetic in.i also have a bad reaction to aneastetic it makes me shiver and gives me migranes.the other thing on nhs online was a quiz on moles and i got 6 out of 6 factors of melonoma,as i have a family history( everyone on my mums side) and have had serious sunburn when i was younger.it told me that i should get to a gp asap,im so scared.

im sorry for going on and on ,but since i cant say it out loud ,this is helping me get it off my chest.im just so worried and stressed.we took a stress test in school(for exam season)and i scored double everyone else, almost off the charts.i feel sick with worry.i feel so much better telling you and all your replies are lovely and so helpful, and thank you for telling me about your experiences, its lovely, youre all lovely people. xx

  • Hi again...

I think you can initially see your doctor on your own. They won't do anything there and then anyway, but if your doctor thinks there may be a problem, they might send you to see a specialist as they did with my mum (although hers developed from a scar not a mole).

I would imagine that you would need an adult with you if you are referred to someone else as it might be at a hospital. Some doctors surgeries do have special clinics where the mole can be removed, but they would book you an appointment for you to go back. Again, I think you would need someone with you then too. At least this would give you time to get your head around whats happening and arrange for a relative to go with you.

With reference to the injection side of it, it isn't like a normal injection where they have to insert it deeply into the skin. It goes just under the skin surface I believe. If you need more than one jab, you normally can't feel the next one as part of the area is already numb.

Injections at the dentist are horrible arn't they...a big needle and they waggle it around...yuk! Don't blame you for going for a bit of gas!

In my opinion, having a mole removed has got to be easier than going to the dentist. Just my preference anyway.

After reading your post earlier thismorning, I decided to make a doctors appointment myself as I have a couple of areas on my arm that look like they could be a pre-cancerous condition called actinic keratosis. I have been putting it off for weeks and weeks, but I thought today I would take the bull by the horns and just go for it. My appointment is on Friday morning. If I can do it, so can you.
