  • Hi Maggie13,

Thank you for coming here and sharing your story and you certainly have kept despite everything you've been through a great sense of humour when you say you sound like Darth Vader. It must be so frustrating for you to have to confront the ignorance of the outside world who don't understand and make false assumptions. There is useful information on our website on speaking after a laryngectomy including a section on voice prosthesis after the laryngectomy and I hope that you will hear from other members of our community who have had a laryngectomy and who understand all the implications.

I have had a little look on the forum for recent threads from others who have had a laryngectomy and I haven't come across any very recently but about a year ago  posted this post-laryngectomy thread about her husband who was at the time struggling to communicate and you are welcome to respond to that thread if you wish and share experiences. If you type the keyword 'laryngectomy' in our forum search which is located at the top, you will be able to find other threads on the subject and feel free to respond to those you feel you would like to engage with.

It's such a shame that you have encountered difficulties going back to work and I really hope that prospective employers will give you a chance very soon.

    Best wishes,
