Diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Bowel Cancer

In February 2024, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Bowel Cancer (I'd retired in January at 62 yrs old) There were lesions that had spread to my lungs and stomach. My wife was with me when I received the diagnosis, the hardest part was telling my two daughters! I was fortunate to get surgery quite quickly, and had a tumour removed from my bowel in March 2024. I had a Hickman line fitted, and started Chemotherapy in May 2024. After 3 months of treatment, the CT scan in August 2024 showed a reduction of the cancer in all areas. I have had scans every 3 months since, and all subsequent scans have shown no evidence of disease. My mental attitude has always been very positive, and I try to keep myself physically fit. I'm told this is a great help in handling the side effects of treatment. Apart from the odd occasion, the side effects have been negligible. I am in awe of all staff at the Chemotherapy Day Unit I attend, and don't think I would be where I am now without their care and support. Ironically, I know I am very lucky! Best wishes to everyone who is living with this disease. I'm living from scan to scan, but staying positive that it won't beat me!
