Cancer is a great leveller isn't it.  It proves to you, what you've  always known, how alone you really are.  Only friend person whose ever cared/loved you is your husband.

If something happened to them you have nobody.

It proves what a sad, lonely, useless person you really are.  Taking air/space from, people who really deserve it.
