Hair thinning

Hi , has anyone experienced thinning of hair with letrazole and Zoladex?

  • Hi JenniferAnne,

A very warm welcome to the forum.

I am now16 years post diagnosis. I took Tamoxifen for 1 year before changing to Letrozole, which I took for 6½ years. I had very thick hair at the start of treatment but found that it got much thinner after that. There are a number of ladies here who have had a similar experience. How do you find the medication affecting you?

    Kindregards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi, thanks for your reply.

i first had breast cancer at 29 and took Tamoxifen after treatment for 5 years. It was really tough with body pain, hot flushes and thinning hair. I stopped it and managed to have a child (my only one).

I then had breast cancer again at 40 and have been on letrazole and Zoladex injections for 2 years now and have just finished Abemaciclib.
I’m okay with other side affects, it’s just my hair which is really affecting me.

it’s so thin you can see my scalp. I used nanogen thickening fibres but it’s not enough.  I use minoxidil and a LED head band light treatment It upsets me so much there are times where I don’t go out. Nothing works.

Ive met other breast cancer patients and their hair has come back full covering and thick.

doesn’t help that my husband of 20 years has recently left me.

Sorry, my post sounds really depressing. I guess I am depressed

  • Hi JenniferAnne,  I am so sorry to hear about your diagnosis.  I am on Ribociclib and my hair has really thinned out.  Some people think that this is a small price to pay but for me it is a real issue.  I get very self conscious.  But now that you have finished your abemaciclib it will probably grow back properly because I think (might be wrong) that this is what causes it.  I have secondary breast cancer so will be on ribociclib for ever or until it stops working.  I hate my hair I have not heard of a LED head band.  I am sorry that your husband has left you.  It is no wonder that you are feeling depressed.  Have you spoken to anyone about it.  You could give the nurses on here a ring.  I got counselling that Macmillan arranged for me so hopefully you will get help too.  Please know that you are not alone and I am here to chat if you want to.  Big hugs.
