Rectal cancer diagnosis - overwhelmed by diagnosis and worried about having radiotherapy. How bad were the side effects?

Hello, I have recently been diagnosed with rectal cancer.  I am due to get a ct planning scan next week then start radiotherapy 2nd week in December and then chemotherapy in January before surgery.

I am very overwhelmed with my diagnosis and was reading about side effects of radiotherapy.  Has anyone had radiotherapy for rectal cancer and if so how bad were the side effects.  Thanks.

    Hello, my dad is currently going through this. So his treatment started with chemoradiotherapy for the 1st week, radiotherapy for the 2nd 3rd and 4th and then chemoradiotherapy for the final 5th week. Then he will need to wait for his surgery.  Hes just finished his 3rd week and he has done really well so far. Said hes been a little tired. Experienced some slight bleeding recently which is common after the 3rd week of radiotherapy. But he has said other than that he feels absolutely fine. Of course everybody is different but fingers crossed you will feel ok too. Good luck with your treatment
