I think this is a very common response at the end of treatment. I remember being very tearful. I think you need to give yourself time to process the trauma your mind and body have endured over the last few months.
Now is the time to reflect and convalesce. Be kind to yourself. I bought loads of books on self care.
I can recommend, The Cancer Survivor’s Companion by Dr Frances Goodhart and Lucy Atkins , it really helped me understand my thoughts post treatment
Good luck with your recovery
Hi Wendyej,
Well done for getting through all of your treatment. Initially we all expect to be over the moon once treatment finishes, but sadly the reality is very different. Despite still having regular reviews for the following 5 years, we are not seen as frequently as we were before and we miss that safety-net. Once the reviews have finished, people feel more insecure. Despite being aware that they can always get re-referred if problems arise, there is always the possibility of recurrence or re-growth. At this stage, the onus is on the person who had had cancer to request another referral. Have you looked at Breast Cancer Now's 'Moving Forward course?' This course is designed to support individual's transitioning after breast cancer treatment through shared experience and expert guidance. I found this really helpful.
Do please keep in touch. We are always here for you.
Kind regards,
Jolamine xx
Thank you Jolamine for your reply, I will certainly look into breast cancer now moving forward. It sounds just what I need to help me through this part of my journey.
I am on 2trials as I really feel that I can give something back. They are called At/NEC and herseptin radical,,
