Very concerned about recurrence of oesophageal cancer, especially with further chemo no longer being an option for me

I had chemo which didn't shrink my stage 3 oesophageal tumour and i had  the ivor lewis surgery 5 months ago. Further chemo is not an option as it left me with nerve damaged to my feet and fingers. They removed 29 lymph nodes of which 4 of them were cancerous. Recurrence is a big concern for me especially as my surgeon advised me to enjoy my life which is all well and good but to me is something that is said to a terminal prognosis and I find it hard to take that well meaning advise. If Anyone else in a similar situation could give my their thought that would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi helstonlil,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear that you experienced these side effects with the treatment.

I understand what you say about finding it hard to take the advice - if you have any questions at all about what to potentially expect - or anything else, do of course discuss these with your doctor.

I wanted to send a reply to your post to give it a little boost, so a few more people should see it and hopefully you'll get more replies from others here. You may also find it helpful to search the forum (using the bar at the top of the page) to find other relevant discussions and people to connect with.

I hope that the forum can be useful for you - we are always here if ever you need it.

    Wishing you all the best,
