Secondary cancer with bone mets.

Hi I have secondary breast cancer with extensive bone mets.  I have to wear a brace for my spine, just been for the fitting.  Does anyone else have to wear a back brace for bone mets?

  • Hi there,  on a recent  CT scan, they told me ive a fracture on my spine  (unknown to me)  . Further investigations show ive a tumour on my vertebrae,  what they propose to do is operate on my  spine, remove  as much of the tumor as possible,  to be followed  by radiotherapy..

    Has anyone had similar done?

  • Hi paddocks  sorry to hear about your fracture on spine.  I have lots of tumors on the spine and had radiotherapy on big one.  Hopefully they can remove all of the tumor on your spine and radiotherapy to kill any last bit left.  Have you got secondary cancer?  No surgery has been mentioned to me.  Good luck when is your op?

  • Thank ypu leelaboo for your reply. Ive secondaries to bones, not in any major organs.

They are hoping asap for surgery,  but im so scared. Their concern was, if left untreated,  it could lead to paralysis,  its so close to spine. Scary stuff.

  • Yes it is called metastatic spinal cord compression but this can be avoided with the surgery and radiotherapy.  That is why I had radiotherapy to stop cancer pushing into spinal cord.  I think it has worked.  It is good that they have caught it early and going to operate as soon as possible.  Good luck with your surgery xx
