Rectal cancer

Hi I have been diagnosed with rectal cancer with lots of  swollen lymph nodes.

I’m unsure as to what stage my cancer is classed as?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

 Thanks Shirley

  • Hello Shirley

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently been diagnosed with rectal cancer. It's understandable that you may have lots of questions about your diagnosis and what this will mean for you in terms of a recommended treatment plan.

Are the specialists still requesting further tests to be completed, or have they discussed a treatment plan with you? We know that for many people, this period of waiting and uncertainty after an initial diagnosis can be really difficult. We do have some information on our website about treatment for rectal cancer that may be helpful, but I wonder if you also might find it helpful to talk things through with one of our nurses. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can. If you'd like to talk with them, they're available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Hopefully, in the coming days and weeks, you will have more answers and certainty about your diagnosis, and the specialists will be able to give you some reassurance about your care.

Do keep in touch Shirley, and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
