Painful scar tissue

Hi. I was diagnosed with breast cancer last year & was treated with chemotherapy, mastectomy & radiotherapy.  All was going well until I was recently hit with searing pain, which I have been told should lessen if I massage the area with oil, ibuprofen/voltorol gel & take paracetamol. The breast nurse I spoke to assured me it is quite normal, but I would like to know if anyone has any other suggestions. Thanks x

  • Hi there,  sorry to hear all that you have been through.  I had lumpectomy, chemo and radiotherapy and tamoxifen.  This was 12 years ago and I still get pain in the breast which has lessoned over time, so I think this is normal.

  • Yes l do believe it’s normal. I had mastectomy and radiotherapy years ago….l still sometimes get shooting pains but l believe it’s because the nerves all in that area are effected.   Put your mind at rest l suggest by at least asking your GP but if the area feels and looks normal l think you will be re assured most people have this ongoing.

Thank you both for your replies.
As a quick update, turns out the pain was from a breast abscess, which I wasn’t expecting!, & hopefully I’ll be able to be discharged from hospital today

Good morning Kt28 so sorry to hear about your abscess.  Hopefully you will be able to go home today and recuperate.   It doesnt seem to be a smooth journey with this horrible disease.  Glad you went to the doctor.  Take care and hope you feel better soon.
