How are others coping

Hi

i was diagnosed July 2024 with stage 4 metastasised bone cancer (in spine and pelvis). Feeling very low and tired all the time because of medication. Hair falling out, have put on weight and bones ache. Have difficulty climbing stairs and getting out of the chair.

how are others coping. Feel a bit lost and can’t seem to move on.

  • Hi Bushey-Herts,

I am so sorry to hear about your diagnosis.  I had breast cancer twelve years ago and now it has returned and have been diagnosed with mets in pelvis, spine and ribs in August 2024..  I have put weight on and in pain too.  I find the best thing for me is to try and keep active.  I actually feel better when I go out for a walk every day rather than just sitting down.  This works for me but I know that we are all different..  The oncologist said to try and stay positive as the mind is a powerful thing.  I do think keeping a daily routine and activity is very important.  I wish you luck and am here if you wish to talk x

  • Hi Leelaloo

Firstly, many thanks for replying to my message.

I also had breast cancer 12 years ago and had a lumpectomy on my left breast. As mentioned, I was diagnosed with bone meta in pelvis and spine.

However, I had only just started my treatment when I became very ill with bronchopneumonia and spent 3 weeks in hospital, coming home to have daily antibiotics intravenously.

I’m back on my meds now but am finding daily life a struggle. The body aches and the severe hair loss being the hardest to deal with.

I keep feeling so uncertain of the future and feel I have a death sentence which realistically, I do. I try very hard to be positive, but every couple of days I find myself on a downward spiral.

Your diagnosis seems very similar to mine and for this you have my greatest sympathy. You have inspired me to be more active and start taking a daily walk, even though I may not feel up to it.

This is a journey for which neither of us wish to take, but I hope we can encourage and help each other.

    wishing you well.

    Best wishes xx

  • Hi Bushey-Herts,

I too had a lumpectomy on my left breast.  Strange how it seems to be so similar.  Perhaps you are feeling so tired and down because your body is still trying to recuperated from the bronchopneumonia.  You have been through a lot besides having to deal with cancer.  I have had pneumonia twice and it really was horrible and I suffer with asthma so get a lot of chest infections.  Walking has been my savior.  I know what you mean about the death sentence thing.  I have started telling myself that I am not going to die with cancer but I am going to live with cancer. Please chat if you need to talk xxx
