Skin Cancer and afterwards - due to have face reconstruction to my lower jawbone

Hi, my name is Stephen and I was diagnosed with skin cancer in January 2020 which also coincided with the covid outbreak, at first I thought it was a cold sore that wouldn't clear up and after numerous biopsies was given the outcome.

I had my first operation a week after my diagnosis but unfortunately it had spread to my glands and ended up in  further complications more surgery and chemo and radium treatment, of which it was a great success and I have now been clear of cancer for over 2 years.

My problem now, is the damage the radium has done to my lower jaw, I have already had two operations for this over the last year and now I face reconstruction surgery to my lower jawbone.

Has anyone gone through this type of operation? I would be grateful for anyone's experiences of what happens

Thanks

Stephen

  • Hi Stephen and welcome to Cancer Chat.

It's great to hear you've been cancer free for over 2 years although I'm sorry about the damage the radium has done to your lower jaw.

They're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. and will do all they can to support you at this time.

We're thinking of you Stephen and wishing you all the best with your surgery when the time comes.

    Kind regards,
