Offering support to a friend with cancer

I have a friend diagnosed with lung cancer. It’s been 12 months and a bit with a variety of treatment. There is a secondary growth now on the abdomen and there is a telephone consultation with a radiographer due next week.

I want to be as supportive as possible but realistic as well. My friend wants to know when the secondary growth will be treated and disappear but I am not so sure that will be the case.

What is likely to be asked  or information delivered on a telephone consultation and how can I prepare for it

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat, Smallpacket, although I'm sorry to read about the reason that brings you here.

During your friend's upcoming phone call with the radiographer, they'll probably talk about the imaging results and possible treatments for the secondary growth. To help, it might be a good idea to gather medical reports, jot down any questions, and offer your support. Keep things positive but realistic, encourage open communication, and check out supportive resources together. Your friend is lucky to have your caring support through this time.

All the best to you both,
