Breast cancer and moles

I went to see the GP today to get a cough checked which I have had for two weeks. All seemed okay and I was prescribed an antibiotic. I am having chemo at the moment for triple negative breast inflammatory breast cancer. The doctor thought that a mole which I have had on my back for years now looked a little suspicious and has referred me to a dermatologist to have it checked out. I'm hoping it's nothing, I had a lot of scans before treatment started and apart from a few small nodules on my lung which were too small to determine if they were cancer, all my scans were clear. I was doing okay up to this but this has set me back a bit I must admit. Feeling worried. I'm having genetic testing next week so will see my oncologist. Trying not to worry but it's difficult.

  • Hi Lynda,

I can't offer any advice in your case but just wanted to say hi. It's possible that your doctor is just erring on the side of caution because of your cancer situation.  Better safe than sorry as they say.  I do hope so!
    Good luck

  • I know it's a worry but it's good your GP has referred you to be on the safe side.

Research is being undertaken in some countries as it's believed there is a link between breast cancer and melanoma in some cases. This is possibly when a breast cancer patient has a particular gene or a melanoma patient has a particular gene. So it's good that you are also having genetic testing.

    Good luck with everything

Angie (Stage 3 melanoma patient since 2009)
