No taste or smell after radio chemotherapy.

Hello everyone.

I had my cancer op in September 2021. I had 5 tumours removed. 1 from my tongue, 3 from the lymph nodes in my neck and one from a vein in my neck.

Following the op I underwent 30 sessions of radiotherapy and 2 sessions of chemotherapy.

My treatment finished on the 10th of December. I am a bit disappointed that 6 months later I still have no taste or smell.

I was wondering if anyone has gone through a similar op and treatment and could advise on when I should hope to get these 2 senses back.

Thank you for reading this.

  • Hello Medwin.  I finished my chemo back in December as well.  I have noticed that my sense of taste and smell is nowhere near as good as it used to be.  I also have numbness and pins and needles in my fingers and toes.  From what I have been told Medwin, and from speaking with others who have had chemo in the past, sometimes these side effects last for years.........in other words, you might never get your sense of taste and smell back, Violet, x
