Hello Marc1969
I'm glad to hear that the GP has given you some medication to try and help with your symptoms as I know you've been dealing with this for some time now.
The NHS website has information about Tamsulosin which you may find helpful but I'd really encourage you to give our team of nruses a call on freephone 0808 800 4040 (Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm). I'm sure they will be able to answer the questions you have about your PSA result and offer some advice and reassurance
best wishes,

Hi Marc1969
I am not a doctor and I have no medical qualifications.
Tamsulosin is a drug which shrinks the prostate and help you to pee more easily.
PSA is Prostate Specific Antigen. It is a marker for overall prostate health, and is used as a rough and ready screen for prostate cancer. The good news is that at 2.12, your PSA is below the level where doctors get worried. The normal threshold is around 3.5 to 4.0. My own PSA went over 6 when I had my prostate cancer diagnosis.
Some drugs which shrink the prostate (notably Finasteride) also artificially lower the PSA, but Tamsulosin is believed not to do this.
I doubt that your doctor will want to take this any further for now, but you should ask if the doctor intends to continue taking PSA tests every 6 or 12 months. I really think this would be wise. It was how my prostate cancer was detected nice and early, when it could easily be treated.
