Still waiting

Hi everybody

I am new to this but Ilove the support you offer each so i thought i would give it a go.

This is second breast ca, my first was 20 years ago I had a masctectomy, chemo and radiotherapy.  

This time i found a lump back in June,  I had a theraputic mammoplasty at the begininng of sept, i feel i have recovered physically quite well.  But i am still waiting to hear if i will need chemo again.  The waiting is so awful and mentally draining, I was given the impression that my treatment would happen quicklyand i wouldn't need chemo so to be still waiting to start the second part of the treatment is begininng to take its toll.    I am having Oncotype test, my score was  26 so i am told it could go either way.

The waiting is most defintely the worst part.

    I noticed no-one has got back to you just yet so I just wanted to stop by and offer you a very warm welcome to the Cancer Chat community.

    I'm glad you've been recovering well from your mammoplasty last month although I'm sorry you still don't know whether you need chemo. As you say, the waiting is very, very tough but you're not alone as many of our members have been through this challenging time so will know what you're going through at the moment and hopefully you'll receive some support and advice from them soon.

    I hope the tips and advice given in this article on how to cope with waiting for news will help but if you feel it may help to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses, please do give them a call on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. and they'll do all they can to help you at this time.

    Hi Liz,

    A very warm welcome to our forum. 

    I am so sorry that you have had to go through all of this again. I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer within the past 12 years too, but both of mine were within the first year and I had a double mastectomy. Have you contacted your consultant's secretar, or your breast care nurse to see what is happening? It does seem a long time to wait to know what treatment you are likely to have. 

    Have you had your oncotype test yet, or are you still waiting for that too? I hope that it all goes well .I would certainly advise you to make a phone call to find out.

    Hi,

    Thanks for replying.   My oncotype test was 26, so on the edge!

    I been ringing rhe breastcare nurses regularly, every 2 weeks because everytime i speak to somebody i am told it will be another 2 weeks.  I am also  waiting for the results of the BRCA test.  I am told they are short staffed and covid is having an effect!  But today marks another 2 weeks so I do hope to hear today.

    Its frustrating because i feel well enough to return to work now, but dont want to if I am about to start my treatment and will need more time off.  I do think in my heart of hearts I know I will need chemo and i just want to get it started, i reacted quite badly last time so its quite hard waiting to fomd out if i am going to be going through that again.   And i have children that are quite anxious about the results of the BRCA as i have quite a strong family history.

    Hi Liz,

    I do hope that you hear today. Try not to worry too much about the chemo. There are different types and some cause more side-effects than others. Hopefully, you will have a different type than you had last time. 

    I am hoping and praying that you don't have the BRCA gene.
