    Hi Karen,

I'm sorry to hear about your toothache and hope that your dentist has been able to help you out today. I am due to get three teeth out tomorrow as a start to getting implants - unfortunately 3 of my front teeth -  and we're going away for a few days  straight after, so I'm just hoping that I can cope with a temporary plate and eat normally whilst we're away. I can't say that Im looking forward to it!

I hope that you're doing ok otherwise.

    Hi June,

I hope that you are beginning to feel a little better today.

I was allowed to shower 2 days after my double mastectomy and showered the night after my lumpectomy. I kept the dressings in place and just washed around them. I used a mild shower gel. Are you going back to get the dressings removed, or what were you advised to do by the nurses?

I was still in hospital on both occasions which was just as well, because I pulled one of my drains out out on one side when I was undressing. Perhaps others could give us their experience?

    Hi V1234,

A very warm welcome to our forum,

I am sorry to hear about your stress. You do not say what age you are, but there is a possibility that a smooth lump could be something simple like a benign cyst. Having said this, I am not a doctor.  Not all lumps are cancerous and those that are are usually craggy at the edges and feel fixed. I sincerely hope that this is just hormonal, but you are doing the right thing by getting it checked out.

Having had 2 bouts of breast cancer myself in the past 12 years, I know just how terrifying the wait can be and our imaginations tend to lead us to all sorts of dark places. I am glad to hear that your hubby is supportive, as this makes all the difference. Mos tpeople don't tell their family until they get a diagnosis, so here's hoping that you won't have to.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    Hi V1234,

We all find the waiting one of the hardest parts of our cancer journeys. I can assure you that I am not strong. I was an emotional mess whilst I was waiting for a diagnosis. I was lucky on one occasion, but drew the short straw on the other two. Still, when it is cancer, we have no choice but to get on with it. Life's too short to let it rule our lives.

I was wondering about your age, because younger people are less liely to develop cancer, although it can hit any one of us at any time. Fortunately, breast cancer is one of the most treatable forms of cancer these days.

Try to find something to preoccupy your to help the time to pass.

    Thinking of you.

  • Hi Everyone, I hope you all don't mind me gate crashing, I've read through the post and feel like you are all a lovely bunch.

I was diagnosed with invasive grade 3 + Dcis 2 weeks ago, last week they told me it was triple negative so will need chemo.  I'm also getting a genetics blood test with the triple neg result and being under 50 (I'm 46).

at the minute I'm waiting on a mri,  but the waiting for everything is a killer you mind just goes to places you didn't even know existed!
3 weeks ago I was just getting on with my life, until I got the recall from a yearly mammogram.

    HI Sarah,

You are more than welcome to join us. I so am sorry to hear of your diagnosis. Is there a reason for you having yearly mammograms before you reach 50? I know that this is not the news you wanted, but it is treatable. Have you any plans for surgery yet or are you starting with chemo?

I agree that waiting is one of the worst parts of this whole process - we nearly all find this. Our imaginations also play havoc, which doesn't help. It shouldn't be much longer until all of your tests are over and you have a planned route forward. Please keep in touch and let us know how you are getting on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

  • Thanks so much Jolamine,

yes it seems we all struggle with the waits,  I was having yearly checks as I'm classed as high risk with a few family members on my fathers side getting breast cancer at a young age.

I'll be glad when things get moving, depending on genetics test it will either be lumpectomy or if positive double mastectomy.
