Hi June,
We all have different, if similar concerns. Looking through some of Breast Cancer Care's booklets on breast cancer, these are some of the questions they suggest at your stage:-
When will I have surgery?
How soon after surgery will treatment start?
How long will my treatment last?
Do you think that you will get all of the cancer this time?
How much more breast tissue do you need to remove?
Will I need any sort of reconstruction after surgery, or will my breast still look normal?
Can I have a copy of my Pathology report?
Are there any signs of lympho-vascular invasion?
Am I going to need any treatment post-surgery?
What hormone therapy do you think will be best for me?
What are the side-effects off treatment and, how is this likely to affect me?
Am I likely to need radiotherapy or chemotherapy?
Is a genomic assay test suitable for me and, if so, which one would you advise?
Your consultant will be likely to answer most of these when you see him/her. I hope that this helps.
Regards,
Jolamine xx

Hi Moira,
I'm glad to hear that you have found this helpful too. As I said to June, Your consultant will be likely to answer most of these when you see him/her. You will also find that the questions flow once you know exactly what you are dealing with and get your Her2 results back.
Regards,
Jolamine xx

Hi Freyafem
ive been reading through all your posts and I am so sorry that you are going through this.
I had a routine mammogram in May just after turning 50. I received a letter asking me back for further investigation where I had a copy under Ultrasound and also a fine needle biopsy under mammogram with a clip inserted. I felt like I had been hit by a bus, there were no lumps to be felt but the original mammogram showed calcifications. Then I had the dreaded two week wait for results where I was diagnosed with a 10cm high grade DCIS. The consultant recommended a mastectomy with immediate reconstruction.
I was fortunate that I could go private for the surgery and it is the same consultant as the NHS so I could have the surgery and then have any treatment needed afterwards through the NHS.
tonsay I was terrified would be N understatement.
I had my surgery on 17th August. First was the sentinel node injection to highlight where the lymph nodes were then straight into theatre. The hospital were able to test my nodes during the operation and I was told that if there were any signs of cancer in them then they would remove all nodes under my armpit. The surgery lasted about three hours and I can honestly say has been less painful then the biopsies.
When I was in recovery I was told that my lymph nodes were clear so only two were removed and have gone to pathology along with the breast tissue.
although I felt relieved, I was still very anxious to get the final results two weeks later.
the consultant did think that I may need some radio therapy.
I received the final results and was advised that no further treatment was needed and I am all clear.
I hope this gives you some reassurance and to know that it is treatable. The hardest part is the waiting.
My new boob is fantastic, now need to get the other one lifted to match.
keep being strong and positive and if you need any advice or reassurance then please do ask.
