Calcifications M4 U3

Good Morning

I am 50 years old and was fortunate to have a mammogram at 47 which came back clear showing a few macrocalcifications but no treatment necessary.  A month ago, I had a routine mammogram and was called back for further investigation.  I had a cyst drained out 10 years ago after finding a lump and was told that I am prone to cysts but to never assume a lump is a cyst. I assumed that they had detected another cyst and wanted to make sure.

I went to the appointment and had another mammogram and an ultrasound.  I was them told that I had microcalcifications on my left breast.  I had a biopsy of a lymph node and also  had to have a biopsy using a mammogram.

I felt like I had been hit by a bus.....

I have been told the mammogram has been graded as M4 and the ultrasound as U3.

Now have to wait 12 days to get results and it is the hardest thing to get my head round.

I feel like I have been given a death sentence, I have a 10 year old son and I am not letting him know anything yet. He asked me why I had plasters on my biospy sites and I said that I had to have an injection and he seemed happy with that.

Any support would be greatly appreciated as I am going out of my mind.

  • Hi Jane,

How are you getting on? Did your appointment go ok?

My appointment for the Core Biopsy is on Monday morning but annoyingly the Vacuum Biopsy isn't until 24th August because of all the dates I'm away in August.  I was really hoping they would do them both on the same day although she did say she might be able to bring the second one forward but wouldn't be able to confirm until next week.

Strangely my left breast (the one that needs the further tests) is really achey and I have a dull pain similar to the pain I experienced after the last biopsies but it's been over two weeks since those procedures so don't know why the pain has all of a sudden returned :-/

  • Hi Mandy

My appointment went well. I had written down lots of questions and recorded all of her answers. I have a high stage DCIS. It hasnt turned invasive but if left it does have the opportunity to become more of an invasive cancer. The only choice is Mastectomy so they can be sure to get the whole area out. They are planning on doing this at the end of August as the consultant is away for two weeks after next week although I have asked if she could do it next week. I stil feel shell shocked and convinced I am going to die...... although she does say that I will not die, lol.

You poor thing..... So you have to have a core biopsy and a vacuum biopsy.... why both of them?

It is normal for your breast to still be hurting, I was told that there was a lot of bruising although you cant see it and it will hurt and may even feel like a lump so please do not worry about that.

Do you fancy a phone chat?

    Jane x

  • Hi Jane,

I'm really pleased the appt went well. You are being super brave! I would be like you though and thinking worst case scenario!

Remember those perky boobs you'll get though! #silverlining

I can't say I fully understand why I'm having both but I think one is for the lump and the other the calcifications. I need to google the difference between the two procedures as I don't actually know!

Would love to chat! I'll add you as a friend on here and can then send you my number x
