Calcifications M4 U3

Good Morning

I am 50 years old and was fortunate to have a mammogram at 47 which came back clear showing a few macrocalcifications but no treatment necessary.  A month ago, I had a routine mammogram and was called back for further investigation.  I had a cyst drained out 10 years ago after finding a lump and was told that I am prone to cysts but to never assume a lump is a cyst. I assumed that they had detected another cyst and wanted to make sure.

I went to the appointment and had another mammogram and an ultrasound.  I was them told that I had microcalcifications on my left breast.  I had a biopsy of a lymph node and also  had to have a biopsy using a mammogram.

I felt like I had been hit by a bus.....

I have been told the mammogram has been graded as M4 and the ultrasound as U3.

Now have to wait 12 days to get results and it is the hardest thing to get my head round.

I feel like I have been given a death sentence, I have a 10 year old son and I am not letting him know anything yet. He asked me why I had plasters on my biospy sites and I said that I had to have an injection and he seemed happy with that.

Any support would be greatly appreciated as I am going out of my mind.

  • Hi Jane

I'm so sorry to hear what you are going through.  I had two biopsies last week and one using the mammogram today so understand exactly how you are feeling. I feel so sore right now.

I get my results on Monday although today's might need to be done again as they had to cut the procedure short as I nearly fainted

Can I ask what M4 and U3 mean? I didn't get told anything about grading.

Try not to worry, I'm trying to keep myself busy but the mind does wander.

    Sending big hugs

  • Hi Mooski

I hope you are not too sore from your biopsies.  I removed my plasters today and it isnt as bad as I thought it would be.

Can totally understand why you nearly fainted, it is a massive shock to the system and not the most pleasant thing to go through.

When I went to the clinic for the biopsies, everything became a blur so I phoned the Breast Care Clinic yesterday to ask what they had seen to warrant the biopsies.  The Mammogram was classed as an M4 which means suspicious so Biopsies needed,  The Ultrasound was U3 which means not clear from Ultrasound.  Apparently one of my Lymph Nodes was slightly enlarged so a biopsy was taken  My GP friend has told me that lymph nodes can become enlarged from the simplest things like shaving your armpits.

It may be worth phoning your Breat Care Nurse to ask them what the reasons for the biopsies were and to see how the mammogram and ultrasound have been graded.

Trying to keep busy but as I am sure you know, the realisation of this hits you like a tonne of bricks.

    Big hugs.xxx

  • Hi Jane

Thanks for explaining, Monday can't come round quick enough! Annoyingly the appt isn't until 3:30pm would have preferred first thing.
I'm literally taking paracetamol every 4 hours at the moment as the pain is unreal. Hoping it won't last too long

Let me know how you get on!
    big hugs

    Mandy

  • Hi Mandy

How are you feeling this morning?

Can I ask what the reasons for your biopsy were?

I dont know about you but I cant stop researching about calcifications etc.  It is probably the worst thing to do but I hate the sitting around waiting for the results?

  • Hi Jane

i had an awful nights sleep as just couldn't get comfortable Feeling ok just still sore.
I had found a lump in each breast so they biopsied both and then they saw the calcifications on the mammogram so also wanted to biopsy that.

I really need to stop googling!! I don't know why I do it but I just find myself reading the same things over and over which makes me worry even more.

The waiting is awful isn't it! How are you feeling? Do you have a date for your results? Xx

  • You poor thing, I totally understand how you are feeling.  Google can be your best friend but also your worst enemy.

My appointment isnt until 21st, a whole week away. I am just putting one foot in front of the other and trying to get through the day.

  • Mine are on Monday so only a couple of days before you. I'll be thinking of you. Let me know how you get on xxx

  • I have just phoned the breast care clinic at my local hospital.  They have managed to change my appointment to Monday 19th at 3.30pm, exactly the same time as yours.......

  • We need to send each other positive vibes!!
So pleased you have managed to bring it forward.

I know you said you have a 10 year old and you haven't told him. I have a 10 year old daughter and 12 year old daughter and I ended up telling them but not making a big of issue of it just saying it was routine and just checks etc. I wish I hadn't as my 12 year old is so worried now

  • Hi Mandy

Just thought I would message you to see how your week has gone and to see how you are feeling?

I still feel like I am in a total daze and cant seem to shake myself out of it.

    Big hugs

    Jane xx
