Calcifications M4 U3

Good Morning

I am 50 years old and was fortunate to have a mammogram at 47 which came back clear showing a few macrocalcifications but no treatment necessary.  A month ago, I had a routine mammogram and was called back for further investigation.  I had a cyst drained out 10 years ago after finding a lump and was told that I am prone to cysts but to never assume a lump is a cyst. I assumed that they had detected another cyst and wanted to make sure.

I went to the appointment and had another mammogram and an ultrasound.  I was them told that I had microcalcifications on my left breast.  I had a biopsy of a lymph node and also  had to have a biopsy using a mammogram.

I felt like I had been hit by a bus.....

I have been told the mammogram has been graded as M4 and the ultrasound as U3.

Now have to wait 12 days to get results and it is the hardest thing to get my head round.

I feel like I have been given a death sentence, I have a 10 year old son and I am not letting him know anything yet. He asked me why I had plasters on my biospy sites and I said that I had to have an injection and he seemed happy with that.

Any support would be greatly appreciated as I am going out of my mind.

  • We are off to the Lake District with the girls and can't wait!  Will def enjoy a Gin or two!!

I hope you are doing ok, I'll update you as soon as I hear something :-) xx

  • Hi Jane

    How are you?

I got a call from the hospital earlier to confirm a telephone appointment on Monday so I'm feeling happy! I can't imagine receiving any bad news over the phone and figure if they needed me to have more tests they would just book it in straight away so fingers crossed everything is all ok xx

  • Hiya

I am good thank you, feeling super positive and looking forward to my perky new boob lol.

That is good news, I agree, they will not give bad news over the phone and if you needed more tests then they would have told you today and got you booked in.

Now you should really enjoy your holiday and put this to the back of your mind.

Let me know how you get on.

    Jane xx

  • Thanks Jane! Have a great weekend and I'll update you Monday! xx

  • Hi Jane

    How are things?

Just had my call with the clinician. Right breast all fine! Left breast I do need to have two more biopsies so they can get larger area just to double check. He said one under mammogram again (the one for the calcifications where I nearly fainted) and then another with ultrasound with larger needle. Not sure what to make of it really. I really hoped this would be the end

  • Hi Mandy

    How was your break away?

I am ok, had a full on wobble yesterday and last night and cried my eyes out this morning. I have phoned the breast clinic to ask some more questions as I have forgotten everything that was said to me at my last appointment and they have changed my next appointment from 5th August to tomorrow. I will feel better once I have spoken to the consultant again but this time, I am going to record the discussion.

    Dont panic......... 50% there.....

Did your right breast have calcifications as well as a lump like your left breast?  The mamogram will be to take a biopsy of your calcifications and I assume the ultrasound will be to take a biopsy of the lump???

It seems to me that they didnt get enough the first time and have to do it to be 100% sure. I have heard that this happens to lots of people and i would tend to think this is a good thing although unpleasant for you.

    When is your appointment?

Sending big hugs and healing thoughts your way.

    Jane xx

  • Oh Jane bless you, that's completely understandable. Recording your next appt is a great idea as it's so hard remembering everything that's been said. I'm already struggling to remember everything the clinician said today!
Yes my left boob had the calcifications and a lump and right boob just a lump. I'm sure it will be ok and just that they need a larger sample to double check.

We go away again next Tue for 4 days so dreading the appt coming through for next week!! Weekend away was lovely btw, just what I needed.

I'll be thinking about you tomorrow, just try and relax and ask as many questions as you need as you can go back to the recording if you can't remember things.

Stay strong, you've got this!! Sending massive hugs xxx

  • Thank you honey.

Hopefully you get your appointment date soon. couldnt they have given you a date over the phone yesterday?

I think the waiting around is honestly the worst part of it all.

    Big  hugs.

    Jane xx

  • That's what's annoying! I just thought surely they could have written to me immediately with a new appointment date as now I just have to wait again. I've just phoned the hospital and given them the dates I can't attend in August as we have quite a bit on! She said she would phone me when she is booking my appt so she can double check my availability.

    Good luck for today xxx
