Coping whilst waiting for biopsy results

Hi I'm.new to this and feel so scared and worried. Any tips how to cope whist waiting for biopsy results, only taken 2 days ago but wasn't expecting these to be taken, I'm.49 and felt lump in left breast (had syst in right one 5 years ago ) so just assumed would be the same but no doctor said there are 2 'suspicious lumps' so not prepared for this and just don't know how to cope!

  • Hi Poppy

snap! I have a 2cm suspicious lump my biopsy was taken on Friday, I am 48, no history of cancer in the family.

I am trying to stay positive and if it is cancer then it's been found and I'll know what I'm dealing with.
You must remember there is so much they can do. The doctor even said to me as cancers go it's one of the better ones to have...

keep smiling, lots of walks and my iPad has helped enormously if you need your mind to switch off, I play games on it or crosswords.

I get my results in 10 days so you should be around the same time. Let me know how you get on or chat here anytime xx

  • Hi Lucyjan

Thank you for replying, we both had biopsys then on the same day! My results due 26th May where I have appointed at hospital.

Same here I'm trying to stay positive, the weekend I was just in a state of what if? I felt shocked, numb, worried, scared all at the same time.  Yes similar age to you, no family history either, and doctor was positive saying whatever it is we will treat it, so hanging onto those words.

    How are you feeling today?

Would be nice to talk if thats ok and definitely let you know how my results go and you let me know too.

    Take care xx

  • Hey Poppy

thanks for your lovely message. I'm ok today, believe it or not I went shopping for my wedding dress! I'm trying to just carry on as normal, I have the odd millisecond of panic now and then but luckily it passes.
Do you have good people around you, I hope so.

I have no date confirmed for my results they just said about 10 days and I will see the consultant. They don't give any out by phone or letter even in the case of it being benign.
I hope you have had a good day and get a good nights sleep.

    Lucy x

  • Hi Lucy

Sounds like you had a lively day yesterday looking at wedding dresses, is your wedding booked?

I slept well last night but just having the anxiety feeling when I wake up, and start to panic abit, but then try and say to myself let's just enjoy the day as best I can.  Yes I have my sister and my son, he's coming with me to get the results.  Got a few close friends which is good also, just getting back into going out to meet up now that the lockdown has been further relaxed and alot more places are open.

How about you? Do u have good support too?

Whatever you do today have an enjoyable day, and hope to speak to you xx

    Take care

  • Hi Poppy

just checking in to see how you are doing? X

  • Morning Lucy

Yeah I'm ok thank you, trying my hardest to distract myself!

    How are you?

    Speak soon

    Xxxx

  • I'm ok, I think the closer it gets to results day the more nervous I'm becoming. I keep feeling under my arms and collar bone for swelling and am a bit paranoid if my back is sore but those times are few and far between. I'm also exhausted. Sorry, feeling a bit sorry for myself today.

  • I too feel like that as my appointment day is getting closer, I'm still in pain under my arm where they took the biopsy from the lymph nodes, and when I get pain in my back and shoulders I'm thinking all sorts and if its all connected.

Its ok to feel how you are feeling as its the not knowing.

Please feel free to talk to me anytime and as many times you want. I'm feeling tired as my mind constantly worried.

Have u plans to do anything today? Xxx

  • Thanks Poppy

I'm sorry you're still feeling sore, that must be a pain as arms are always on the go. I had the mother of all bruises on my boob from the biopsy but have to say I'm not in pain.

I'm at work today which keeps me focussed to a point. My other half is being fab. I have played the biopsy down to my son as I don't want him to worry although he has my pragmatism which is helpful.

what are you doing today? X

  • If I only had the 2 biopsys on my boob it would have been better, as they don't hurt even though its badly bruised. I've only just managed to be able to wash my hair which I've done today!

Thats good u have a fab husband, your son and work too to keep focused.

I don't work but I'm doing a course in Counselling skills and my unit due in on 29 May so doing that as much as I can really.  My son is worried he's coming with me next week for the results. My daughter is only 10 and I've told her the bruises are because my booby is poorly and had an injection!

As I said here anytime xxx

  • Hi Poppy

my appointment came through yesterday, it's the same day as yours at 11am.

how are you feeling? I cried a bit but feeling better now.

    xx

  • Hi Lucy,

I'm ok, trying to feel positive but do feel scared too! Its because I'm still badly bruised under my arm and it still hurts where they took the lymph node biopsy.

My appointment is 2.10pm so let's keep our fingers crossed for both of us. Totally understand why u got upset when u received your appointment.

Let's try and enjoy our weekend, u got any plans?

My name is Laura (Poppy is one of my favourite names i had for my pet rabbit)

    Speak soon xxx

  • Hi Laura!

I am going to see my mum today, she's lovely and wonderfully positive. I have a FaceTime chat with my son later and then enjoying a hiking Sunday with my fiancé. What are you guys up to?

do you ping pong between being totally ok with all the fighting talk to being a bit of a shaky mess? So up and down x

my biopsy site bizarrely is hurting today. hope you get some comfort from yours today, it's a constant reminder

    Lucy xx

  • Hi Lucy,

Oh sounds a lovely weekend planned, I'm hopefully popping to see my sister later and popping to see my son too, he's coming with me on Wednesday to my appointment but he's been a bit distant from me this week as he says he's really worried but I've tried to be positive for him.

I wake up with dreadful anxiety and can very easily start to panic  but I try and ground myself and not let the negative thoughts get too much out of hand.

Yes, constant reminder of the pain makes it feel so real!

Well you enjoy your weekend and it is good to talk to family and friends

    Laura xxx
