Ectropion or something more?

Hi I'm hoping you may be able to offer me some advice.

I have started getting abnormal bleeding between periods. Contacted the GP as this didn't stop after a few months, they arranged an examination and an ultrasound.
At the examination the nurse told me I had something called cervical ectropion, I went for my ultrasound and was told there were no abnormalities.
No smear was offered as I had one in 2019

A few months on and I am still having the abnormal bleeding and now occasional pain lower right abdomen.

could it be possible that it is cc and not cervical ectropion?

has anyone had a similar experience?

thanks in advance

  • Hi T8388

I would recommend going to the gp as you are having these symptoms which are ongoing. A smear test is to test for abnormal cells, not diagnose cancer, so it’s correct that you wouldn’t get another one at this point. An ultrasound is not a typical tool used when investigating symptoms for cervical cancer either, so really the best thing is to be referred to a gynaecologist for symptom investigation. The ectropion isn’t cancer, but can cause bleeding.

With ongoing symptoms it’s best to get a pelvic examination by a gynaecologist, in my opinion, to set your mind at rest. It’s not likely to be cervical cancer, but you do need to have it investigated. x

  • Hi,

thank you very much for you response and advice.

I will contact my GP again, like you said even if to help put my mind at rest by ruling anything else out.

  • No problem-you do need to be reassured that it’s nothing serious. In my own experience it’s best to get symptoms checked out and hopefully there will be nothing to be concerned about. But you do need peace of mind. Good luck, and please let us know how you get on.

  • Hi hope you are well, I could have written this myself.

I have a gynae appointment after clear smear in 2019, clear trans vaginal ultrasound and bloods.

this has been going on for a year now.

Monday is my gynae appointment and I'm getting nervous as I can't imagine what it could be causing it for all this time.
