Any experience of Chemo with Doxorubicin

Hi,

I am 57 year old male. I am due to start chemo (Doxorubicin) next week. I will be having 6 sessions 3 weeks apart. I would like to hear from a male who has had similar treatment. I would like to know about how to deal with the hairloss, fatigue, sickness etc. Any hints would be very much appreciated.

I have to say that for the first time in the three years since my op that I am very nervous...

A brief background; I was diagnose in Feb 2018 with leiomyosarcoma (soft tissue cancer) of the Inferior Vena Cava. I had surgery to remove my IVC and had the best part of a year clear of sarcoma. However, since 2019 I have had numerous secondaries on my lungs and liver. Until recently I had lots of Microwave Ablations (MWA). Unfortunately my latest scan shows a number of lung nodules and a large growth on my liver that is too near the portal vein and bile duct to ablate. As such I am now moving onto Chemo. I am aware that this isn't a cure for sarcoma but it will hopefully slow or stop the spread of metastatic cancer and if very lucky it may reduce the size.

  • Hi G2EVM and welcome to the Cancer Chat community.

I've had a quick look through the forum for you and unfortunately there haven't been many discussions about this type of chemo recently but I do hope my post will allow new members of the community who have experience of this to see your post and pop by for a chat.

In the meantime, I hope the information we have about Doxorubicin and how to deal with the possible side effects will come in handy but if you'd like to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses they're available on 0808 800 4040 Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Wishing you all the best for next week G2EVM.

    Kind regards,
