Testicular Concern

Hi,

I have been experiencing pain in my left testicle - I have no lumps or bumps but the veins do feel a little inflamed/ enlarged. The pain is intermittent but noticeably worse at night.

I've actually had pain on and off for quite a while and around 2 years I went to the doctor who didn't seem concerned, I had a urine test and was told to take ibopfren for 7 (maybe 10 I can't remember) days and to come back if the pain was still present, and it wasn't so that was that.

However over the last couple of weeks the pain has come back and now I'm concerned about what to do and wondered if anybody else had ever had similar symptoms and what the outcome was?

I guess it's human nature to assume the worst sometimes and whilst google is navigating me away from any type of cancer it would be nice to get some advice/ assurance.

Thank you

  • It's always best to get it checked out, the chances are that it's nothing serious - but the earlier you get the nasty stuff ruled out, the better!  Just go and see the GP, it's only ten minutes out of your life.

  • Hi Teddysrules.  Welcome to the forum.

I've been experiencing similar pains off and on for the last 40 years!  In fact, they just started up again yesterday.

A few years ago my GP sent me for an ultrasound, which found nothing wrong at all.

The general consensus is that the pains are caused by an infection called epididymitis. Often they just go away on their own after a few days. Sometimes they're particularly severe and I need a course of antibiotics which usually clears them up in a few days.

I think you should maybe ask your GP for an ultrasound just to be sure that there's nothing nasty going on.  I don't think there is, but when it comes to the family jewels you don't want to take chances :-)
