Found lump on front of my neck

I’m 16 and I found a lump on the front of my neck, I did a bit of research online dumb I know but I think it might be thyroid cancer I just want to know what are the survival rate of it and how do I tell my parents

  • You should  just have to tell them you need there support  don't look online

  • Hi Cian12345.  Welcome to the forum.

I should mention that I'm not a doctor and I have no medical qualifications.

Thyroid cancer isn't very common; at your age, the incidence is around 2 per 100,000 people; your lifetime risk of getting thyroid cancer is less than 1%.  While it's not impossible that you've got it, it's pretty unlikely.

That is one of the problems with reading up your symptoms online - inevitably cancer crops up somewhere and suddenly everyone thinks that's what they've got.

That said, it is possible you do have a thyroid problem, but it's more likely to be an over- or under-active thyroid rather than cancer.  These conditions each produce their own set of symptoms and it would be worth checking them out online to see whether you have any of them.  Check this article: a guide to thyroid disorders in adolescents
