CA125 test result 90

(9th Dec)

Hi. I'm a 46 year old female and I've been having abdominal/gastric problems since last December after coming off the contraceptive pill in August 2019. My symptoms seemed to get worse monthly and seemed to tie in with my monthly periods. I had blood tests done last week and found out that my CA125 result was 90. I'm now on a two week wait for an urgent scan to find out if I have ovarian cancer. I'm pretty terrified to be honest and wanted to know if anyone out there has experienced the same type of situation?

Thanks

**Update 18th Dec - had my ultrasound yesterday that looked at my upper abdomen, lower pelvic area and ovaries. The sonographer was able to give me information at the time. She found nothing glaringly obvious of concern and said my ovaries looked fine. She said that the bowel is never very visible  on an ultrasound so my gp may want to look into that further. It's a really good outcome and i just wanted to post this update to reassure anyone who may have a raised ca125 that it's not always  bad news. Hope this helps.

  • Hello Lytham45,

  • Hello how are you im in the same situation as you I've got a reading of 90 I'm terrified of what's ahead of me!!

  • Hi,

Everything turned out fine for me and it was a false alarm. I've been told that it's not a very accurate test and many other things can cause a false high reading.

Easier said than done but try not to worry. Take care

  • Thanks so much for coming back to me wish I could just switch my mind off many thanks again x

  • Wishing you all the best. Take care x

  • Hi There... My mind is on overtime at the moment too. I am all over the place. So i have suffered lower back pain for a couple of years, then last March suffered the most horrendous pelvic pain. The only way to describe it is like heavy contractions. I went to the hospital and had a CT scan. They said all was ok and sent me home with pain relief. After a week i was okish. I would have a day here and there with pelvic pain then in November boom the excrutiating pains were back. I called my doctor who prescribed me buscopan !!! the next day the doctor called me and said that my scan in March had shown fluid in my uterus and she wanted me to go for an ultrasound and have bood tests. Blood tests showed high CA125 ( I'd  never heard of it before) and us scan showed fluid. I recieved a call from a gynaecologist saying that i needed a transvaginal scan. So with a few more months of back pain and pelvic pain i had a scan at the end of March. I was then booked for a hysteroscopy as the scan showed significant endometriosis, fluid in my uterus, they couldn't couldn't find my ovaries and a broken coil buried deep in my muscle( I supposedly had my coil removed 7yrs ago under a general whilst having a vaginal repair) i'm 50 and also 5 yrs postmenopause. My CA125 levels keep fluctuating. So 2 weeks ago went to have a hysteroscopy and my uterus has a thick membrane blocking it. My consultant has now rushed me in for another hysteroscopy under general as she said I have so much going on there. I am worried sick but am holding it together as i do not want my children or grandchildren to think that I'm worried.

    Best Wishes x

  • It's just the worry isn't it I'm trying hard to be on top of it!! You take care when is your next procedure?? Keep in touch xxx

  • It's just constantly there.. I'm keeping myself busy as much as I can... I'm not able to exercise due to my back pain and drag on my tummy.  So ... I had my pre op assessment on Monday for my procedure on 16th .. but had a call on Tuesday saying my CA125 levels were up and they want me in on Saturday. Due to having to isolate for 3 days before an op I've arranged work etc so I said no I would stick with weds... so will find out for sure what's going on then.. thanks for responding and allowing me to unload all my woes x

  • Unload away I feel exaclt the same it's just heavy isn't it!! What was your ca125 results ?? What have they said is next?? I'm just waiting so overwhelming not knowing big hugs my lovely xxxx

  • I will have the hysteroscopy on Wednesday. Going to be taking biopsies, having a good look and trying to remove the broken coil that shouldn't even be there. My Ca125 has been 90 then 35 then 65 then 70. From what I can gather endometriosis can cause it to rise. I'm just confused by everything and find it very overwhelming. Enough about me... what is next for you. What have they said xx
