Possible Lymphoma?

I started with what I thought was a sore throat about 12 months ago, I was using antiseptic throat spray, it would die down but never actually went, then I started getting a recurring thrush infections on my tongue, (again I was self medicating with oral gel) same again it would die down and come back, until eventually about 4 weeks ago my tongue was so sore it felt twice the size, it was also around this time I started feeling like something was stuck in my throat and I couldn't seem to clear it. I just put it all to the mask wearing etc.... however a week or so ago I noticed a swelling on the front right side of my neck and also my neck is so stiff down the back and sides, it sounds like its crunching on the inside when I turn my head, then 2 days ago I noticed a small inch or so swelling on my collar bone, about 8 months ago I had a really big build up of wax in my ear on the same side (1st time I've ever had that) and as I'm 52 I put my night sweats down to menopause, so does it sound like all these things are connected, my gp has booked me in for an ent scan and a camera down my oesophagus but if they see the lumps what will they do, will they do something that day, also not sure if its related but I have developed terrible gums and horrendous bad breath, sorry to sound like a moaning Minnie but im never sick and now I've got loads wrong

  • Hi Maximoo.  Welcome to the forum.

There are a number of possibilities.  In my own experience of ENT referrals (and listening to the stories of others), once the ENTs have you then an MRI or CT scan is pretty much automatic.  I also expect there to be an ultrasound scan of the lumps.  After that you might expect one or more biopsies, and possibly a "panendoscopy" under general anaesthetic.

It's difficult to say what will and won't take place at your first appointment.  Possibly the ultrasound and biopsies, depending upon time available.  MRI/CT probably not the same day.  If they decide you need a panendoscopy then definitely not the same day.

Please let us know how you get on, and don't be afraid to come back if you need to talk.

  • Thank you, it will just be a blessed relief to finally be getting something sorted at last, I feel like I've been under the weather for at least a year. I will keep you posted.

  • I've had two brushes with cancer (prostate and bladder) and couple of near misses.  I find it helps to talk and share my experiences.  Best of luck with your appointment(s).
