So worried about CT Scan

I had an ultrasound which showed multiple gallstones and also a 1.8 cm lesion on my liver.
I was referred on a 2 week wait and I've had 1 phone call from a nurse asking about my symptoms and then an appointment for a CT with contrast which I had last Tuesday

im in bits with worry. i am convinced this is going to be bad news.
I have lost 2 stone in 2 months. Although I'm hoping it's because I'm living on homemade soup because of the gallstones. I'm tired all the time. I'm petrified every time my phone rings because I think it's going to be bad news from the hospital. I don't even know how I'm getting the results phone/letter.
I feel like I'm a completely different person. So low.

Does anyone have any idea how long the ct results take. Is no news good news?

  • Hi TI, I've had Ultrasound, CT and MRI scans,  and the images appear on the system almost instantaneously, but these need to be analysed by a radiologist (a specialist in interpreting images of the body). After analysing the images, the radiologist will write a report and send it to the doctor who referred you for the scan so they can discuss the results with you. This normally takes a few days or weeks. Ref: nhs CT scan site. If you really worried I'd suggest you contact the Nurses, call 0808 800 4040 or click here.

    Hi

I called the cancer office and she said they have been reported on but would not tell me anymore which I know they cannot do that.
it's the nothing since then. I have no follow up appt to be fair I've not even had an appointment I've just had 1 phone call from 2 week wait upper gi nurse asking me about symptoms then a call from radiology appts booking me for the ct.

As time is slowly plodding on I'm getting more anxious. I know a couple of people that have been referred on the 2 week wait since me and had the tests and thankfully discharged as the results were good.
im thinking maybe my results are not good and they are arranging other things. I thought no news was good news but maybe not now.

Hi TI, sorry to hear your still waiting  But at least the 'cancer office' has received the report, it's now probably with the doctor who referred you for the scan, so hopfully once he/she has had a look at then they will be contacting you soon to discuss the results with you.
    I
suggest you contact the Nurses here on the Forum, call 0808 800 4040  (Mon to Fri, 9am to 5pm), or click here, if you are still worried.

Thanks 729. Just the waiting has created so many different emotions. Also weekends when I'm not working gives me too much time to think

  • Hi TI

My GP can access reports from the local hospitals through her computer system.  I've received MRI and CT scan results this way much earlier than I've heard from the hospital itself.

I don't know whether this is the case in your region, but there's no harm phoning the receptionist to find out. You can then decide whether you want talk to your GP or continue waiting to hear from the hospital.

  • Thank you. I am going to try again with gp tomorrow. I did call them last week and they did not have anything.

  • Hi I know it's very worrying time for you,I would say try not too worry but I know we all do ,try and stay positive I have been diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer  but I try to think positive, stay strong keep busy take your mind off it all x
