Yes thanks, I had a double mastectomy second time around, followed by Letrozole for 7 years and haven't looked back since.

my wife had the op on 18aug where they removed her left breast / cancer tumour  etc

Now today we recvd  a letter to say she has an appr with the oncologist on 19 Aug 

The consultant who dealt with the op etc I must say he wasn’t as nice as yours 

he did emphasise radio therapy . But it’s her decision whether she needs chemo,,,,!!..but said to my  wife that they are awaiting for results 

As u can imagine its all so worrying time 

like to know your views etc 

my wife seems Ok... still hurts sometimes as she is recovering from op

It is still early days for your wife. Although I healed fairly quickly after my lumpectomy, I still felt very uncomfortable driving over speed humps, or even a bump in the road and, this was the case for the first year.

I am so sorry to hear that your wife didn't get a very nice surgeon. I had a bad experience with my first surgeon too and, found it very very difficult to deal with. I was advised to have radiotherapy and hormone treatment. I didn't have radiotherapy, because six months after my first diagnosis I found a larger lump in my other breast, which my surgeon dismissed and refused to scan. I refused to have radiotherapy for one breast whilst ignoring the other. We had an awkward impasse for 11 months after my initial surgery.

I was eventually referred to see another surgeon, who was in charge or all of the surgeons in my area. What a difference, I suddenly experienced in my cancer care! He immediately checked this lump out and, fortuunately, it was benign. I looked into having radiotherapy at that stage and, went to see two researchers about this. One advised me that I might as well try it, but the other advised me that there was absolutely no point in having it, if I hadn't received it within three months after surgery.

I took Tamoxifen that first year. Then I discovered a second lump in the original breast. I found this almost a year to the day from my first operation.

This time round, I had a double mastectomy and was then told that I didn't need chemo or radiotherapy, but I took Letrozole for 7 years. As you may have already discovered, hormone therapy can carry nasty side-effects, although some people are fortunate to experience no side-effects at all. I hope that this is the case for your wife.

Am I right in thinking that your wife's appointment with the oncologist is in September and not August? If so, it would be a good idea for you both to sit down together and draw up a list of questions before she sees the oncologist. I do this for every appointment and, find it helps me not to forget to ask anything important. The oncologist will be quite used to people doing this. It is not fair to leave her to decide whether or not she needs chemo. Ask how much this will improve her chances if she does have it. Her oncologist is in the best position to answer this, as s/he has all of her medical records to hand.

Do you know what type of breast cancer your wife has, what grade it is, whether it is HER2 positive or negative and, was there any lymph node involvment when her pathology results came back after her surgery?

This is a worrying time, but she will get through it. She is fortunate to have your support when she is going through all of this, as it is a particularly scary experience.

Going to the initial stages .. when they discovered the lump in my wife left breast after the biopsy results there were no signs of any spread..Also no CT scan etc etc was needed before the op

All thus prove to my little brain that so far so good

that  cold consultant was so adamant to remove the cancer turnour which was at that time 4.5 cm grade 2 ?.(hope this makes sense so far)

Now after the op my wife was told that the lymp  nodes test carried out before the op on 18aug 

The results was All Negative 

Now in my very limited knowledge I can’t see why the long wait

At the very most my wife should have been offered  radio 

That consultant did say that she will be on Ostergen Hormone replacement tablets for next 5 years.. We need to find out any side effects etc as My wife has IBS / type  

Taking all this into account in my opinion she is doing okish

Of Course she does get mood swings/feel of depressed etc etc  

I try to change the moods as much as I can

Fingers crosses on 18 Sept we will be told either Radio ..as this was that consultant Recommendation

They removed the cancer turnour  which he told her was. Grade 3!!!

and all the cancer cells etc ..

My wife was Told No More operations  

I wish you could talk to my wife 

she will feel a lot happier that someone like you has recovered/doing ok
