MDM meeting...?

My mum is waiting for a diagnosis due to coughing up a blood clot two weeks ago. She had a CT scan and they've told her the consultant is going to be having a MDM meeting to discuss results.
Does anyone know what this stands for and what it means?

Do they only have these meetings when they've found something or is it just general procedure for everyone's CT results? Thank you

  • MDT meeting probably. Multi disciplinary team. It's a weekly meeting where the different specialists discuss cases and agree diagnosis, treatment, etc.

  • Hi,

Galilee is absolutely right. MDTs have been routine since 1995.

The CRUK website describes them far better than I ever could "Central to the UK’s cancer services are multidisciplinary teams – MDTs. An MDT is made up of a variety of health professionals involved in treating and caring for patients, such as surgeons, clinicians, nurses and diagnosticians. Each week, the MDT meets to discuss individual patients’ cases and make treatment recommendations.

MDT working is considered the gold standard for cancer patient management[1], bringing continuity of care and reducing variation in access to treatment – and ultimately improving outcomes for patients."

    Best wishes

    Dave

  • I just googled it. MDM meeting means Multidisciplinary Teams may specialize in certain conditions, such as Cancer.
