Breast cancer

Hi I was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer (Her2 positive). CT scan also showed something going on in my stomach which I've had MRI for yesterday. Fingers crossed it's not related to the cancer.

Just want to get started on my treatment. I've been given a choice of chemo, op and radiotherapy or op, chemo and radiotherapy, 2 different consultants and really don't know which one to choose !!

  • Hi Amy

many chemo have you had so far?

    any side effects ?

are you having your breast taken off or reducing the tumour to save the beast?

tell me your whole plan if you feel well enough and what size is your tumour

    thanks

    maxine

  • Hi maxine. Yeah this is my 1st round of chemo. Im having 6 every 3 weeks. Then hopefully if the tumors have shrunk they will do surgery then radiotherapy. The side effects ive experienced so far are, sickness (very little) sore neck, bit shaky and more tired. But if you had it, it doesn't mean it would be the same for you. They're going to do a mastectomy on my left breast but they're not sure about the other one. Its a long road ahead but im taking it one step at a time

  • I can't believe that your work colleagues said that !! Anyone would rather be at work rather than go through this, people can be so insensitive !!

I've managed a trip to the garden centre today which was nice.....it was nice just to try and be a bit normal !!

Still got the drain in hopefully out this week but got a feeling it's going to be next week now.

How are you doing ? Have you still got side effects or are they starting to ease ?

I just keep thinking this time next year .......it will be 100% better for both of us I'm sure xx

  • Hi Amy

How are you doing ? I haven't heard from you for a while so hope you're ok. Is it this week or next that you're having chemo again ? I don't know where I am with the days they all seem to roll into one.

I hope it goes as well as can it can be and it will be one less to have and one step closer to the end of it.

I'm still carrying my drain round with me hopefully it'll be out tomorrow then at least I'll be able to drive again, I can't wait !!

    Take care

  • Hi karen. Sorry i haven't been in touch. The last few days have been tough. I had to be tested for covid aswell, thats stressed me out! But thankfully all ok. It just seemed to be one thing after another but im feeling quite well today. Im due my next round 3rd september. The nurses said to me hopefully it might be easier because i'll have a rough idea of what to expect. But im not looking forward to it! I didn't realise you'd have to keep the drain for so long. And it'll be nice to get some freedom back. Will they be doing a check up.with you soon? I hope you're ok

  • So sorry to hear you haven't been well. Did you have Covid symptoms ? The test isn't nice is it I had to have it when I went in hospital.

Pleased you're feeling better today hope you have a good week before you're next chemo.

I had my dressing changed last Thursday and will see a nurse when my drain is out tomorrow  but apart from that I don't know when I'm seeing anyone....I'm going to write a list of questions to ask when I go as don't know if the tightness is normal !! It feels like they've taken too much skin off so lifting my arm is really uncomfortable as I feel it's going to split !! I had to keep the drain in until the fluid output goes down to under 30ml.....some days it's go down then jump back up !! I just need a proper shower !! Hahaha.

    Take care

  • I had a really sore throat so i phoned oncology to see if they could prescibe me anything. They said i needed a dr out to see me, so paramedics came round and took my temperature etc. But it was high so they said i had to have a test. I freaked out lol. But it came back negative, thank god! The problem is, i had a nearly a week of feeling well then i was hit by a few really tough days, its unpredictable. Your arm sounds painful, would they give you anything to help? It sounds silly, but are you allowed to put moisturiser on it? That might help with the tightness. Hope they sort it for you. And it will be a relieve to get rid of the drain!

  • It must have been so scary Amy. The covid outbreak puts a totally different outlook on anything now doesn't it especially when sypmtoms can mimic others.

I had my drain out yesterday YAYYY !! It feels totally different just having it out, I feel like I've got more movement. I'm going to try driving today, not far, just the local garden centre. I've still got to have tape along the scar tissue for the next 3 weeks so moisturiser is a bit tricky at the moment.

Just waiting on my results from the op now then hopefully start chemo next month.

Hope you still are on your good days, take care xx

  • Hi. Thats brilliant now the drains out! Did you manage a drive out? I went to a couple of shops yesterday, the 1st time since chemo. It was lovely but i was nervous about getting close to other people. Yeah the covid thing is very scary. But now the hospital have told me ive got to be tested before every round of chemo! I can handle the nose part, but its the throat swab i'll struggle with. So im stressing about that now. But ive been feeling quite well for the last few days. If you have chemo, do you know which one it will be? Im on FEC - T, 6 cycles every 3 weeks

  • It's good you got out and about but I know what you mean about people and boundaries!! I could do with a big rubber ring or a stick hahaha!! I managed to drive yesterday which was good, a little bit of independence back. My next goal is walking my 4 dogs !! My poodle is fine as you don't know you've got a lead on her but my spaniels can be little sods especially when there's another dog about !!

I know what you mean about the throat swab. The nurse who took it in hospital had a right good delve in the throat and seem to take ages doing so !!

I'm not sure what chemo drugs I'll be on they might have said but I don't always take everything in. I know I'm her2 positive if that means anything to you!!

Just sent the husband for a pump for the garden as we're flooding again luckily only the garden but at this rate I'll need a boat soon ......roll on nicer weather !!

Enjoy the weekend Amy. Speak soon xx
