Complex Hyperplasia Treatment With Progesterone IUD

Hello Ladies,

I am in a similar situation, have EH without atypia and decided to have the coil as trestment. My first 6 months biopsy is due in Aug and would like to ask those who have had follow up biopsy already if the coil is replaced with a new one every 6 months? I thought it would not be as it is good for 5 years as contraception treatment anyway, so the hormon it releases would cover the 2 year EH treatment.  Can you please confirm if yours was changed every 6 months or not?

Thanks, Vica

  • Hello Vica

I noticed that you'd not had a response to your post and just wanted to stop by to say Hello. Unfortunately I don't know the answer to your questions but wondered if you had a nurse specialist that you could call about question. Alternatively you could give our team of nurses a call on 0808 800 4040 (Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm) as they may be able to help.

    Best wishes,

  • Hello Jenn,

Thank you for your response, I will call your team of nurses as you recommended. Could you please confirm the number from abroad as I will call from Ireland?

    Many thanks,

    Vica

  • Hi Vica,

Sorry I didn't realise you were posting from Ireland. It's worth speaking to someone more locally to you as treatment regimes can vary and it's unlikely that our nurses would know indepth about Irish healthcare practices.
You may want to try contacting the Irish Cancer Society nurses or alternatively give your health care provider a quick call.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Jenny,

That is no problem at all :) I would prefer to hear someone's experience here as I used the information of this website and other documents issued by gynecologysts in the UK available on the internet to decide to try the Mirena coil instead of the hysterectomy that my own doctor recommended. I felt that my own doctor pushed me to have the surgery without offering any alternative options, and even when I was asking questions about other options the responses were very dismissive and discouraging.

I did not want the surgery, felt it to be too invasive and unnecessery especially after doing my own research in the topic. So based on what I read partly here I made up my mind to try the coil and I do not regret that decision. What I am not sure about is why my doctor wants to replace it every 6 months when I have the biopsy. I would like to know whether it was the same for other women or not as nobody mentioned that it was the case. My biopsy is only due in August, so I have time to wait for someoen to reply, hopefully will :)

    Than you,

    Eva
