High grade (moderate) Dyskaryosis

Hi everyone

I had my first smear recently - Im 28 and never had one till now. Not because I was scared or embarrassed just life gets in the way, working full time in the emergency services and well I just kinda forget.

I had already had a trans abdominal and a trans vaginal scan a week before my smear due to a water infection that didn't want to go away.

Luckily they came back all clear!

However my smear results came back this week confirming I had HPV and high grade moderate dyskaryosis. I have a colposcopy next week.

Im terrified! Not about the procedure but about the cells being cancer. All I have read is cancer and the potential of never having children and I cannot focus on the positive at all.

Im crying all the time.

Is there anyone who can advise or reassure? Anyone with the same situation?

x

  • Hi Emsie

This is not cancer, so try to stop googling which will only scare you! You have cell changes due to the hpv virus, and these will be investigated at your colposcopy to decide on any treatment if it’s required.

Having a colposcopy and even treatment to remove abnormal cells does not mean a loss of fertility, so please try not to worry at this stage. You should try and focus on the fact that your cell changes have been detected and they can be treated. Good luck! x
