HPV positive and Low grade dyskaryosis

Hello I received my smear result back this weekend and it said I have HPV positive and low grade dyskaryosis. I am so scared, I have always kept up tp date with my smears and they have always been clear. I have been with my husband for 13 years. I have been referred for a colposcopy. Please can anyone give me so advice about what this means. I am not sleeping, I cant face food and I cant stop crying. I have 2 children and the thought of what this could mean terrifies me. How do I get rid of HPV? I havent had any irregular bleeding and nothing has been picked up im previous smears why am I testing positive for HPV now when iv been married to the same person for 13 years. Please if anyone could help or maybe tell me your story.

  • Thank you so much for replying. The letter I received on Friday said I should hear within 2 weeks about a date for the colposcopy and if I don't hear to contact my GP where I had the smear. I think I'll give it to mid next week and call them. I can't eat or think about anything else with the worry. It's so scary when it comes out of the blue after all normal smears. It's just so frightening that this virus has been in my system for so long without me knowing and I haven't been able to fight it off. I'm going to buy lots of vitamins today and eat more fruit and give up my wine to try to boost my immune system. X

  • That's so good you got seen today and that they could see it was low grade. I hope you feel a little better x

  • I do feel a little better now it's been done, it's the dreaded waiting game now though...and then what happens if it actually comes back worse?

my mind just does overtime....the Dr told me not to google and to look at a website called jo's trust, maybe something to look at for you too?

    x

  • I came across them. Been looking at so many sites. I don't know if that helps or makes it worse! I'm like you. I'm a worrier at the best of times. Just bought lots of vitamins and fruit and an immune system boosting soup. I read in one study papaya is good so I bought one of those. My letter is from the cervical screening administration services so I'm not assigned to a hospital yet and no contact details on the letter. I'll chase my GP next week. Just want to get the examination over with and at least have some reassurance if it doesn't look too bad. It feels like a nightmare though doesn't it? X

  • I feel so tired now,I think it's all the last few days and the mental state I have been in...

my letter was the same as yours but I did yet another google search to see which hospital I would go to, you need to do whatever feels best for you..

it does feel awful but not real in a weird way x

  • It's draining isn't it, the worry. I've lost 5 lbs in weight since Friday as can't eat. I wanted to lose some weight but not like this! I'm near 3 hospitals but have a feeling which I will be called to. Did you just ring the switchboard and ask for the department that does the procedure?

  • Yes so I am in 3 hospital catchment areas also, so I just called all of them, one said they didn't do it so it was out of the others. When I got through to switchboard  I just asked for colposcopy in gynaecology and that was it, really helpful people...

It also maybe that virus has been laying dormant for 11 years and it's just become active..xx

  • Thank you so much. I think I will give it a try, there's no harm. The waiting times can be so long. I've just got an appointment for my son at the hospital (Dermatology Dept) I think I'll be referred to and his appointment is the end of October. I can't wait that long for this and it feels unsafe to. Thank you so much x

  • Hello, I hope you don't mind me asking. I'm in the same position as you last year and awaiting my colposcopy on Sunday. I've started taking 1000mg vitamin C, Vitabiotics Immunance, 1000mg B12 and a Tumeric supplement daily. Are the vitamins something you're continuing with permanently or was it just for a while to help things to get better? I must have persistent HPV as I think caught it 11 years ago and it's not caused problems until now. x

  • Hello thank you got getting in touch. I have been taking the vitimins ever since I had my results back last year  and have continued taking them as I have really felt that they have made a difference to my immune system. I would definstely recommend taking them as I truly believed they helped my body to get rid of the virus. I also must have had persistent HPv as I have been msrried for 12 years so it must have been laying dormant all that time and then reactivated when I was under extreme stress and my immune system was too low to fight it. Fortunately my last smear has just come back clear. It sounds like you are taking all the right things.
