Fluid after mastectomy

Last year I had my 3rd BC and my second mastectomy. After my mastectromy I had fluid that wouldnt go away, they were reluctant to drain it and when they realised it was infected I was given Anti Bi's (which didnt work), so had another dose which gave me a UTI (I was passing blood lol). Anyways, the infection went but not the fluid. Had my last check up last Aug, and they said it would eventually go and not to worry HA. My fluid is now solid all along the length of my scar it it lookds and feels like my boob is growing, Ive now got a nice small handful?? but, I think its getting bigger and Ive noticed my scar is slightly wider than what it was. What would cause this and what can be done. Im so hesitant to conact anyone because of the current situation with the virus and I know how busy they mist be. Thanx for listening

    Hi Minky,

Welcome to our forum. I am sorry to hear that you have had 3 breast cancers. I have had 2 and had a lumpectomy and a bilateral mastectomy. I also had swelling and had some fluid aspirated, but I was fortunate that antibiotics worked for me.

It sounds as if you have hadthis for quite a while. If you feel that yours car is slightly wider and the area is getting bigger, you need to phone your breast care nurse for advice. I know that his pandemic is making things difficult and we don't want to increase the burden on health care staff, but your breast care nurse will decide whether you need to go to hospital or not.

Whatever the decision, I hope that they can do something to help you.

Please let us know how you get on.

We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Good Morning,

Thank you for your reply. I have done exactly what you suggested and I have just left a message with my BC nurse, so will wait and see what they suggest.

    I will keep you updated.

    Stay safe,

    Viki

    Hi Minky,

I'm glad to hear that you have contacted your breast care nurse and, I hope that she will contact you shortly.

She should be in the best position to advise you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • My BC nurse called me back and I explained the problem, unfortunately she cant diagnose without seeing me and thats not safe at the moment, so she asked me to email pics of my boob (bloody hard work, trying to take pics of your own boob lol), which I have done.

Hopefully she will call me back tomorrow, if she doesnt wet herself laughing :-)

    Hi Viki,

I am glad that your breast care nurse did get back to you. I can understand why she can't diagnose without seeing you. I hope that you managed to get a decent photo, despite the difficulty of trying to take it yourself.

They say that a picture paints a thousand words, so let's see what advice she gives you tomorrow.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
