Ovarian cyst

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me!

In 2018 I had an MRI, which found an ovarian cyst on my left ovary. I had an ultrasound, and they couldn't find anything. I was told that my pill would and can cause the cysts.so I came off it, and have been for a year.

So as of recent I've stated paying more attention to my periods and I have the pain in my left ovary always a week before I'm due on and the week afterwards. Its incredibly uncomfortable, my left leg goes numb, I feel constantly bloated, and I can barely eat much without feeling full. I also cannot stop going to the toilet a lot.

Sorry if this is TMI but it panicked me, I recently started bleeding heavily, but I've just been on my period, but it was more as if someone had cut me. I'm sure something was wrong.

I went to the drs today, which they've done loads of tests, practically a smear test, but I feel like i haven't any answers.

I'm being sent for a ultrasound (possibly an internal). I'm 22 years of age, but I feel as though I've been made out to be "imagining it". And I'm so sure it's there, but they can't feel anything but I seriously can.

Its worrying me a lot and I just would like someone to put my mind at ease!

Thanks in advance

  • Yes i defo understand where you're coming from. You know  your body best and can tell if something is not right. Thanks for clearing all this up for me. I feel abit better about tomorrow. I'll let you know what happens. Xxx

  • You're more than welcome! I'll keep everything crossed for you too xxx

  • Hi im back from my scan. Its a cyst about 5cm big. But didnt rupture they say but the bleeding is unexplained. Have to rescan in 8weeks. And wait for doc to refer me to see what to do. Apparently ive had my period early as theres hardly any endo lining at the moment. I think i ovulated and it triggered my period straight away as well as pain in my ovary. This is all so sudden.dont know what to think. Sounds like a big cyst i have. How big is yours if you dont mind me asking? Nice to know i have someone going through the same thing to talk to. Hope youre feeling okay xxxx

  • Ahh bless you! So mine was 5cm too!

In a way it's good it hasnt ruptured, and sometimes they just go away, hopefully you get referred to a gynaecologist and get some answers.  I can totally understand how you feel, because yes they've told you about size etc, but I think it's still the fear of what might happen, and what it is. And I can imagine every single thing will be going through your mind right now! But try not to worry yourself sick, 8 weeks seems like a long time. And I found with me, for the first few weeks it was all I ever thought about, but then you do eventually forget about it for a while. And then it flares up again.

So when i got told I had mine and was told it was 5cm i was terrified and i blocked it all out for a while, i genuinely thought that was big, and obviously it's not meant to be there. But from hearing other stories, I've found people can have them as big as a melon and only then will they remove it.  It's a lot to take in and I remember I brought my mum with me when I found out, as I originally went for the MRI on my back, and it terrified me. But I've learnt to live with it and only I guess now I'm tracking what it feels like and what it does etc. You must give yourself time to think about it, be sad about it and although googling doesnt always help, read about it! Because the more you know the better. I'm here to chat to on here. I think what I've found a lot is that not a lot of drs know enough about cysts etc, and I think you have to put words into there mouth sometimes before they can initially say what they think. It's a scary time for you, and I know exactly how you feel. Bless you! It makes a difference, I'm good thank you! xxxx

  • Hi there,

This all sounds so stressful and I'm sorry to hear you're going through this ! Your cyst is fairly big however last year I had a 22cm cyst removed with my Fallopian tube that I didn't know was even there until a routine scan for another health complication and I was told it's the smaller cysts that tend to niggle and cause more pain hence why I missed it and didn't realise it was there !
Let's hope it maybe disperses on its own or they are able to sort it for you soon, despite what's going on! I'm currently awaiting a scan for another suspected cyst so I feel for you hugely and sympathise how hard the waiting is etc.
    Take care of yourself x

  • Hi molly thanks for the reply. Its been great having others to talk to who are experiencing similar things. I hope so too. Thats amazing that yours didnt cause u any pain! Glad yours got sorted for you as i heard a burst cyst is very painful. Which im worried about ofcourse. Hope you get your scan soon and feel better. Thanks hopefully will have a scan in a month or so time xx
