3.2cm liver lesion found with ultrasound

Hi. I'm 45 years old and I've just been told yesterday that a lesion has been found on my liver. I've now got a hospital appointmnet with the gastric department in two days time. I have quite a bit of discomfort in my abdomen but no other symptoms. I'm so very worried about the diagnosis and prognosis. It sounds like a cliche, but you really never believe that these things can actually happen to you.

I'd really like to hear from anyone out there who is experiencing anything similar.

  • Hi

I'm sorry to hear what you're going through.

The same thing has just happened to me. I'm also 45 years old. Went for an ultrasound today and apparently  there's a 2cm legion on my liver. There is also a 3cm one on my adrenal glands.  I was told a report had been sent to my dr and I must speak to them urgently. He called at 6.30 to say he was arranging a CT scan for Monday. I have no liver symptoms and blood tests for full blood count, liver function etc are fine. I do have symptoms of an adrenal tumour however. I'm so worried it's malignant and spread to my liver.
The waiting is the worst part.

  • Hi,

I'm so sorry to hear that. It's all so worrying.

The doctor told me that they hadn't found anything else on the scan and that my liver function results were normal. I have, however, got a lot of discomfort in my abdomen and i have little appetite and do generally feel unwell. We were initially looking at the possibility of a stomach ulcer but the h pylori test came back negative. I have read that you can have a negative result but still have an ulcer though. I'm hoping so much that the symptoms i am experiencing are from an ulcer and that my lesion is simply benign.

It's just so terrifying. I can think of little else day and night. You are right that the waiting is very difficult. We will both hopefully know more on Monday. I'll keep my fingers crossed for both of us. Please feel free to message back anytime. Your response made me feel less alone in this.

    Take care.

  • Morning!

Actually managed to fall asleep. How are you?
I really hope everything goes well for you today. Fingers crossed . Please let me know how you get on.

  • Hi. That's good you fell asleep!

I've just got back from my appointment. It was basically a chat with a consultant about my symptoms and the lesion. They're going to concentrate firstly on the liver lesion before my gastric problems as they think that is the priority.  Had some more blood tests and he confirmed that i will have the scan within the next two weeks.

Hope you're ok and that everything was ok. Let me know how you get on.

  • At least you've seen a consultant and things are moving. Did they say what they thought it might be? Or what the blood tests were looking for? That might make it clearer for you. At least they're moving forward with a scan. But I'm sorry it could be up to two weeks. Try and keep busy.

Ive just had a CT scan which they said will be reported urgently. They wouldn't tell me anything or reassure me which is worrying. I also don't know how / when I'll get the results. I'm fearing the worst as no one will discuss it.

I hope your appointment reassured you a bit. Thinking of you.

  • Good that your scan has now been done. I don't understand why they couldn't let you know when and how you will get the results. Information is so important at times like this!

Maybe have a search on this forum for ct scan results to see if you can find any info?

    Try hard to stay positive.

  • No, they didn't say what they thought it might be. Just that they didn't think my gastric problems and my liver were linked. They want to focus on my liver first as a priority.

Unusually for me, I didn't look at what the consultant wrote on the blood test sheet so I have no clue. Can't believe I did that!

  • Hope you're ok. Thinking of you

  • Thank you. How are you doing?

im not having such a great day. Just seen my ultrasound report and it looks like I have a tumour on adrenal gland that's spread throughout my liver. I think the CT confirms this. Not looking good.

  • Oh I'm so sorry to hear that. Really sorry.

How did you see the report? Has someone explained it all to you?

I can't imagine how you're feeling but please try to not think too far down the path. This could still be treatable. It doesn't mean that nothing can be done. At least some treatment could start now? Again, so sorry. It's all easy for me to say. Just trying to balance out your news a little.

Thinking of you and sending lots of good thoughts x

  • Still thinking of you. Hope you're ok

  • Thank you. I'm struggling not to think about it.

The GP receptionist gave me the report. No appointment or anything just asked me to collect it to take to my next appointment with the consultant (which is hopefully Wednesday now). Maybe I shouldn't have read it.

Im just hoping the consultant will have something more positive to say...

    Hows your day been?

  • I find it astounding that they just gave you it with no appointment/chat/support - shocking! Anyone would have done what you did and read it. It must be very difficult for you. I feel for you.

Like you say, hopefully the consultant can give you more info. I hope you'll be ok. I've thought about you a lot.

I'm ok thanks. Just hoping my scan appointment won't take too long to come through.

Hope you manage to get some sleep tonight. Have you got someone there to support you?

    Take care

  • Hi. How are you doing? Hope all is ok

  • Hi. I'm doing ok. I've no further news so just waiting to see what they say. How's everything with you? Have you got a date for a scan yet?

  • Pleased you're doing ok. I'm not too bad thanks. No, not heard anything yet. Apparently it can be anytime within the next two weeks. Hoping it's sooner rather than later.

hope you get some positive news

  • Sorry for late reply. Hi how was you day? Have you heard anything yet?

ive finally seen a dr today who said my liver if ok from the ct scan thankfully. Apparently ultrasound can pick up a lot of benign masses on the liver. Hopefully that's you as well as me

There is a tumour on my adrenal gland that needs further investigation but it's not spread anywhere else.
I've had more blood tests and am waiting for another CT scan....

  • Hi. I'm doing ok thanks. Just playing the waiting game. It's been one week of worry so far and still waiting to hear about a scan. Hopefully I'll hear something soon.

That's really good news about your liver. Bet that was a relief. Yes, fingers crossed that the same applies to me re a benign mass.

How are you feeling about the adrenal gland diagnosis? Hope you're doing ok.

  • Sorry for the late reply. I lost my phone!

How are you doing today? The wait and worry is so hard. Have you heard anything yet?
The dr did tell me there are lots things seen in the liver at ultrasound that are nothing. He basically dismissed the report completely and said they're seen all the time but they must follow up.. Which is good but stressful.

I don't know what to think about the adrenal gland as they don't know what it is. The only good thing is that it's easily removed so I assume that's what they'll do.

Hope you hear something soon. I have my fingers crossed for you.

  • Hi. I'm doing ok thanks. Still not heard anything. I'm hoping that means I'm not a high proirity! My symptoms seem to have improved a little which also helps me to forget about it all a bit more easily.

Thanks for the info about the liver lesions. It really gives me a boost and makes me feel a lot more hopeful.

You sound a lot more positive? Pleased you're feeling better. Hope everything works out ok. Keep in touch and let me know how you get on and I'll do the same!

    Take care
